Does anyone know of an engine (other than Rybka) that has the CPU Usage feature enabled?
There is a really nifty feature (found in the Aquarium personality settings) that allows you to run the engine at a chosen cpu percentage.
I am a 1600+ player. I don't need an engine with 2975+ elo to help me improve. I have a 2 year old laptop whose fan is annoying when engines are running full throttle.
The "CPU Usage" setting is awesome because I can set the engine at a usage rate of 10% and still have a 2700+ elo engine and my cpu runs cool and the fan stays quiet. The "UCI limit strength" setting also will reduce you cpu usage by limiting the search depth to 5 ply. (For those who aren't aware, Rybka 4.1 averages elo 2400 when it reports a search depth of 5 on your GUI.)
These settings appear as options for some other engines, but adjusting it doesn't have any effect. They only seems to work with Rybka.
If you know of other engines that responds to these settings, please share it with the group. Right now, I am stuck using Rybka as my only engine for training.

How many cores does it have ? Setting the engine to use 1 core (if the laptop has 2 or more) will let it run cooler and quieter.

That's the side dish, but not the main course.
Let me know if my PM helped.
Try using stockfish at level 3-5, it will not run 100% of your cpu power.
Is Aquarium still updated?
