This probably correlates pretty well with the number of copies of Rybka and Aquarium sold over the same time frame...
Except for the spike of posts from March, 2011, to April, 2012, which I attribute to the new Correspondence forums (nearly 50 thou for their first year).
Isn't the spike in 2012 due to Bobs showuppance? :)
The time period you refer to goes from March, 2011, to April, 2012. That means we're talking 2011 here, more than 2012. As for Robert Hyatt being responsible for the spike, our interests rarely overlap, so I haven't been following his posts. I can't endorse or oppose you hypothesis.
> Isn't the spike in 2012 due to Bobs showuppance? :)
Yes, and this would have produced a nice spike in Rybka sales. :-)
This spike occurred during the ICGA controversy, which naturally also produced a spike in Rybka sales.
I guess we can agree to both events, having played an important role.
The number of posts for the following 14.5 months (up to September 13), is just shy of 40,000. We're now at, roughly, the forum activity for the first year.
September 13, 2015 - October 14, 2016: 12,624 posts (that's less than 1,000 a month).
It looks like Rybka fans, no longer believe it to be a work in progress. In recent years, only the WBCCC kept post figures high, right now without the flip side sub-forum, there's no major activity left.

Ozy my buddy, i wasn't into computer-chess the last 21 months (of course a lot real-life matters...), and when coming back today reviewing my [final corr-]game against Uly - and i still get real pleasure thinking about how he got whipped by that time
, i also got a real smile seeing your post here...
You're one of the greatest guys i ever met online in my life, our exchange about corr-&freestyle-chess was a real pleasure, and of course i still owe you some calculating-resources i promised (sadly there is no freestyle-tournament near-term
)...
Boy, i miss you all... Nelson, BfL, turbojuice, ppipper, Eros, NATIONAL12, donkysand, Matt, ..., yes hell, even bantering with Uly.
Hope everything is fine with ya guys!, just a shame this forum dies every day a little more...

Errr... you do realise, this wasn't a PM, right?

But tell me, is there anything new around freestyle-chess on the horizon, or just the usual engine-only-<insertyourself>? Sad there are no sponsors to fund Chiron/Arno-infinity, he is a great captain without a [money-]ship...
It's remarkable that a remnant of us still check in periodically. If he would send out some tantalizing posts on Fritz 16 and treated his fans nicely again things on this site might turn around.
Great to see you still here, even when you would be just the perfect candidate for the US-presidency your country is currently just lacking... you're eloquent&intelligent, well read and not only attractive to both women and hispanics... yes, your political ideas wouldn't even be that important as long as they suit the typical taxes-down&we-finally-fight-the-corrupt-system-standard-rhethoric... Edit: Oh, and wikispaces even lists you as a correspondence-chess player!
Do some of you [rare] thinking Americans realize that Hillary is an old very-to-often-used toilet brush, who can't -actually never could- even satisfy Bill's needs?

Regarding "Trump vs. Crooky" the media here in Germany is as biased as in the US, which doesn't surprise when you consider that US- and other befriended-countries hold major stakes in them... yet it's always funny to read that Hillary won a debate because a CNN-poll is telling that...
Oh, and yes, Vas will publish Frika 1.0 soon! (in German language: Frikadelle = meatball/rissole
)

Yep periodically. But the place seems pretty dead unfortunately. It's like one of those old Western boom towns after the gold rush...
> It's like one of those old Western boom towns after the gold rush...
One can even image the wind throwing the hay-wads through it

And when you allow me to say: The two bigger leading wads i can imagine being Komodo & Stockfish, with Houdini following with a certain distance... but there is never ever a Rybka one...

Nice analogy, although I'm not so sure about the order. We need testing groups to get their hands on H5.
> We need testing groups to get their hands on H5.
Houdfishy 5 @ TCEC indeed looks interesting, and i know a pretty good Spanish chess-freestyler who has a heart for it... but who has not, we all look for new tools to play with...

I never stopped using Houdini in my games, you just needed to know what to expect from it.
> you just needed to know what to expect from it.
Yes, true for all tools, women, ... I also have it in my toolbox since V1.5a, and older versions even have their advantages as well.
Houdini 1.5a was the strongest engine at the time, it was in everybody's toolbox, even for those who didn't have one.

Don Ozy, i wanted to point out i STILL have V1.5a in my toolbox, despite newer versions (which often were just overtweaked for engine-games, yet they brought some new interesting "features"...) and even in Stockfish/Komodo-age... and besides that, i even have something in my toolbox which you don't have: my perfect-good look!

>i STILL have V1.5a in my toolbox

I'm currently analysing your freestyle-games from the tourney of spring 2014... you don't want to know, how many disastrous disconcepts, outright blunders, serious mistakes, tactical disasters and strategical catastrophes i have already found... in your first game!
, oh no wait, that was a game of Grandblasta Alvin, Wrathmaku of the Titans...

Was it the Ruy Lopez game? I had three games in that tour that have huge winning chances but i misplayed coz difficult to play in my time zone. My games are running between 10pm to 2am so basically i was sleeping during my games!

Well, at least you didn't have to play in your car, powering your laptop out of the cigar lighter socket.

Indeed a real classic, showing addiction, desire, passion... and now give me the correct position on his screen!
> Was it the Ruy Lopez game?
Actually i was just kidding Alvin

The last bout of tourneys, was supposed to give access for the top 8 centaurs, to any upcoming 2016-2017 Freestyle event. I'm guessing it'll have to be 2017.
And it's Ciron, Chiron's an engine.
And it's Ciron, Chiron's an engine.

Would be great to see another freestyle-tournament, especially as you really deserved first prize in the last one (Nelson might not agree, but: most top10-wins, least profit of other-participants-mistakes...)... let me know a few weeks in advanced and i can arrange a few dozen cores for calculation (at least for some demanding games).
What is your current interest in computer chess? Do you regularly build your book, play engine-only-games, analyze openings or Intagrand's weaknesses, test engines, ...?

I've been having an increasingly bad knee for the past 7 months, which has taken my interest out of much everything, honestly.
Wishing you a turnaround&speedy recovery Ozy/J.!; As we both know, chess often can ease some pain, especially when there is some kind of real competition (tournament, important game, ...)... guess i wouldn't live today when not for some glory moments back then.

Problem is, I haven't been able to sit down since August 3rd, for risk of thrombosis. My left leg's circulatory system is pretty shitty at this point.
> I haven't been able to sit down since August 3rd

Juan let's have a 6 games freestyle match over infinity chess?
Despite that not being my kind of thing (as you well know), if/when I'm able to comply, I'll let you know.
Alvin old' gambler, ask Scott(y) in case he's still around and sober...

Oh i have 5,695 Fini money at infinity chess maybe we can put some thing on the table to make it more interesting!

A few years back i have beaten you several times with my old nick in corr-chess - indeed i can't remember you scoring even a half point against me
, but i also realized you got stronger and more solid recently... till now i didn't even had a serious try at freestyle, and indeed your 2nd at the last freestyle-tournament was pretty impressive, yet you obviously borrowed&used some seriously hardware achieving this.
And as my resources for the next freestyle-tournament (may it ever happen...) are already promised to Ozy and i therefore can't even participate on my own, i may have to wait till ~2022 to get my feets wet there.

A reminder of what has been lost and and what has successively replaced it. In the words of Alan's favorite politician, "the cause endures, the hope still lives, the dream will never die."
Close. This was one of my favorite advertisements of all time!
Any bets on how long this ad would last in today's hypersensitive baby generation?

It's been decades since I've looked at an edition of National Lampoon, but they ran these Ted Kennedy jokes at every opportunity. It would be a shame if this were no longer possible...
The 2015 version reads: "If Ted Kennedy drove a Volkswagen, he would have let the car take the breathalyzer test"
