To answer two questions from yesterday from the forum:

1) The persistent hash is written to and read from whenever it is enabled. However, Windows doesn't update the file date until Rybka closes (or more specifically until ::fclose () is called).

To verify that everything is working properly, you can do:

: uci
: setoption name Persistent Hash File value hello.rph
: setoption name Persistent Hash Enabled value true
: go depth 14
: setoption name Clear Hash
: go depth 14

2) The sampled search does impact the search tree, but in a negligible way. A few tables are updated during the construction of the search samples, and these tables are used during the rest of the search. The updates will neither improve nor deteriorate the quality of the search.

I'll add both to the FAQ.

Can you also plse explain sampled search; i could not find it in the FAQ

My own experience is that Rybka 3 provides better search results under Aquarium than under the Chessbase interface and I understand this is due to the fact that only Aquarium is able to use sampled search.

The new ChessBase GUI for Rybka can also use sampled search. This doesn't affect overall search quality - it just shows more information to the user.

I will document this when the UCI extensions are released.
