Arena crashes on Win 98SE, and I am looking for a GUI running under Win 98SE
in which Rybka 3 engine could be installed.

WinBoard works fine under Win 98SE but is it possible to install Rybka 3 in this GUI ?

Should it be the case, are there specific installation guidelines and where may I access them ?

Thank you.

Yes, I think so. I have never tried it, but there is an UCI to WinBoard adapter (not to be confused with the Wb2Uci adapter), available from the WBEC download page:

It is from the year 2001.

But at first, I suggest to try the Arena version 1.1. This is currently the latest final, not a beta. I did use it in Windows 98SE often, and it worked fine. Very reliable. It already has very many functions, especially for engine vs. engine matches and tournaments.

If you for some reason cannot run Arena 1.1 either: WinBoard "X" is also worth to look at. I didn't try it, but it has many enhancements over the standard Winboard.

Thank you. Arena 1.1 installed perfectly.

Without your advice, I wouldn' t even have tried to run it !
