In the engine pane, one sets hash size (say 4096 MB) for each installed engine. Also, in the database pane, when one stops running i.a., the little green square on the far left of task bar turns to gray to show that the loaded engine has been stopped.

If one right-clicks the gray square, the context menu gives an option "Set hash size." Let's say that that dialog shows a default (or set) hash size of 64 (I assume 64 MB), then what hash size is being used for the engine in question, 4096 MB or 64 MB?  And if the latter, should one "set hash size" to 4096 MB?

In my setup the "Set hash size" dialogue value mirrors the different hash settings in my engine pane for each of my engines. So you may have a problem and your engine could well be using only 64mb hash even though 4096mb is entered in your engine pane. You can check by looking at the memory allocated to your engine in the Windows Task Manager. I have found, on occasion, when I have revised the default hash size in the Setup menu in the engine pane, that even though that new default hash size is displayed in a newly installed engine setting, it is not used. I resolved this by changing the engine hash setting to an arbitrary number and then returning it to the size I wanted, in your case 4096mb. That always seems to fix it.

Dickie, an excellent idea, which fix initially seems to work.
