Just wondering which is the most popular style for this new Rybka Forum?

I tried out 3-4  different ones... and have chosen Silver for the moment.

So far almost everyone is using the default style for this forum (Rybka). A few people have switched to other styles.

If you switch, let me know if something doesn't work as intended and I will fix it. Some of these styles are not fully tested, especially regarding the display of chess diagrams.

Forums cool... till now everything seems to be working fine. Just checked out the "Edit" function too.

Silver style feels good for this forum. Not too bright on the eyes :)

Good to hear. No technical problems have been reported so far.

People have different criteria when it comes to forum styles. Let's hope everyone finds a style that they feel comfortable with. :)

I simply love the notification feature. Keeps me informed when one has replied to my posts.
Great work.

I've tried all of the styles. I like Blue, and Green is also good, but after playing around went back to Rybka style. I also played around with % Indent, Font Faces and sizes but didn't find anything better than defaults. I unchecked the box "Show board descriptions" for a simpler view of the Forum homepage.

I might opt for a darker background such as AquaDark or WHPortal but the diagrams don't work with those. Some of the command buttons are only placeholders with a few of the other styles, but I probably wouldn't choose them anyway.

There appears to be a 10 minute limit on editing posts, otherwise I would have added these comments to my post above. I suggest increasing the editing time limit to 30-60 minutes, if possible.

The diagrams are very nice, but they could be considerably smaller. It would help conserve space on our monitor screens and decrease the required screen scrolling when negotiating a long thread. I think it would improve things to reduce the diagrams by 25-50% in size. In other words the new diagrams would be 50-75% of the current size.

It is actually set to one hour from the time the post was created. As an example you edited the post you mention 52 minutes after it was created.

I agree and I will reduce their size (just give me a few days). All diagrams will be affected, even those that have been posted already.

After seeing that the current size of the diagrams looks just about right on a higher resolution monitor I decided to give the users a choice. If you want smaller diagrams go to "Options" and select "Small chess diagrams" under "Display Options". You might need to do a "hard refresh" in your browser after that to make sure that the updated JavaScript is loaded from the server.

I also checked all styles, mainly looking for something darker. I was about to go with AquaDark, but then found out it could not display diagrams properly. I also somewhat liked WHPortal, but it somehow seemed slow, and maybe had the diagram issue as well.

So, I went back to the Rybka style, which is quite orderly, but a little too light for my liking. I generally don't like to stare into a lightbulb :-).

Fixed. The diagrams should be displayed with these styles now.

The diagrams work fine with AquaDark now and I've switched to that style. Thanks.
However quoted text is gray, almost the same as the gray background with AquaDark.

Suggest a lighter color for quoted text there - maybe light yellow, green, or blue.

I changed it to some kind of yellow.

Thanks. That works OK.

My only problem now is that after spending some time on this forum with the dark background, the irises of my eyes open up. Then when I surf elsewhere on the internet or use other software, I get a painful blast of light from their light background screens.

I've been working on a dark background theme for Windows XP but it isn't easy. Everything seems designed for light backgrounds!? I'm convinced that dark backgrounds are better for the eyes long term, i.e. over many years.
