 Well DONE Nikolaos.
Well then I must try FRENCH OPENING as BLACK. Anyway. Good JOB
Parent - - By trandism (**) Date 2014-03-07 22:14
I have to say that this drawing variation is mentioned in a recent very-well known book on the French Defense, so my work was easy. It was not some database mining achievement.
Parent - - By Master Om (Bronze) Date 2014-03-08 02:42
Which Book ?

Rd1 which is a main move suggested by engines seems to be an inaccurate one!!

10.dxc5 is Khalifman's recommendation instead of 10.Rd1. Plenty of useful analysis from Black's point of view in the book.
10.Ra2!? is a very interesting and unorthodox anti-b4 idea which was explored by Kasimdzhanov in a DVD I haven;'t watched and maybe there White can find something. Black replies 10...Qb6 trying to prove that the rook is misplaced but White has his trumps starting with 11.Ne2. To be honest I haven't found anything else for White in the whole 9.a3 modern branch of variations t get an edge. Critical for the whole variation must be a game Hou Yifan-Ding Liren, Xinghua 2012, although even there I have found something for Black on the 21st move that might have solved his problems.

>10.dxc5 is Khalifman's recommendation instead of 10.Rd1.

Ok. I analysed that line after our game. Its definitely better.

>10.Ra2!? is a very interesting and unorthodox anti-b4 idea which was explored by Kasimdzhanov in a DVD

Yes but Ididn't find black falling in the unorthodox idea.

>To be honest I haven't found anything else for White in the whole 9.a3 modern branch of variations t get an edge.

May not be true!!

Ok. May be its like Marshall Gambit!! dead draw?
Parent - - By trandism (**) Date 2014-03-08 13:43
I don't know :)
Dembo-Danielian, Khanty Mansiysk Olympiad 2010 seem to support that opinion.
I think there is a Bologan DVD that gives some untested tries for White.
Probably nowhere near Marshall's drawness but still a very comfortable line for Black I believe.

An interesting statistic would be after 9...Qa5 in my opinion
Parent - By Nelson Hernandez (Gold) Date 2014-03-09 12:18
Book has 61% success and 43% draws after that move, influenced by the two most popular moves, 10.Be2 and 10.dxc5, which are both a bit under 60% and about 45% drawn.  The move that was played was 68% and 40% and ranks #1 in my book.

stem game illustrates a beautiful drawing concept culminating in castling trapping a bishop --- a long sequence of moves calculated or more likely prepped. i would probably play 9.dc anyway.  10.dc is probably best but drawn and Be2, Ra2 and Rb1 are also interesting.
