Hi all.

I am trying to get some good opening books. I have purchased the R4 in the past and was pleased with it though I do not have it anylonger. I am looking for good openings for a human player and computer alike. I have heard Hiarcs has a good one that keeps expanding with a subscription. Is that the best commercially or no? Also, many books are available on here but I don't know which are worth while and which aren't. Some want me to download something from something called .rar and I don't know what that is and it might not be safe. Any advice would be warmly welcomed. Thank you.

rar is a file compression algorithm you'll need 7zip or rar to uncompress it.

No one really answered this question, and is also something I would also like to find the answer to, plus will all the books, Hiarcs etc just load into Aquarium?

This is like trying to answer questions about the meaning of life. Nobody can tell you definitively, but the answer isn't Hiarcs! However, we should give Team Hiarcs kudos for their well executed campaign which resulted in them winning the 2008 WCCC in 2011! Who knows what other previous years they may be able to win in the future!

Well their book(not asking about the engine here)seems to cost a lot of money so I would assume it is better than H3 book? Are there better books for free then that are better for Corr.Chess play about?

A number of people on the Hiarcs team are highly ranked correspondence chess guys, so it's a given that their book will be solid for this venue, but of course being publicly available, it can only take you so far. There are a lot of people who are starting from the Hiarcs book and others and then doing a ton of IDeA analysis to extend the theory. If you have the resources, this is probably the way to go...

Will the Hiarcs book load into Aqu without any problem ? Yes I know, we are talking about Aqu here, when /where if anything can go wrong it will. So Should it load in without any problems??

Aqua doesn't have any problems with ctg formats. It has a built in book to load them into and you can use it with engines. Somethings you will have to modify using CB tools to modify the book. You can create an Aquarium tree from it and modify that though.

I haven't purchased the Hiarcs book because I'm the 1.b3 guy, and the Hiarcs book incorrectly lists this as 1.b3?!

So I'll let someone with experience with this book and aquarium guide you...

:yell:

This is probably the same way it is notated in Eros' book!

Ero's book entry....

Yes, yes, yes, only 1.e4 would be green, but 1.b3 would be followed by at least two question marks! I remember an Eros diatribe once when he went on for quite a while about this crappy little opening!

I had the subscription to the Hiarcs book for several years and used/use the books in Aquarium without any problems. They are ctg books but work just fine in Aquarium.

How about Matsuda/JapanTopTeam books, which were on top of the book tournaments by Sedat Canbaz?
