Hi!

I'm sorry if this is a stupid question but I couldn't find the answer (not even with the almighty google).

Basically I have just switched from rybka 2.2 to rybka 3 and I have trouble adjusting. The main problem I currently have is that Rybka 3 seems to be slower. This sounds vague so let me be a bit more precise.

I analyse by quickly playing different moves, see how the evaluation changes, play on, back up, back up some more, try something else, play a few moves, back up, etc. This worked great in rybka 2.2. By playing the suggested move by Rybka, it sort of was forced to focus and therefore quicklier reached a conclusion. Then when I backed up the engine remembered the variation I just entered and adjusted its valuation accordingly.
In rybka 3 this however doesn't seem to work, whenever I back up the engine forgets whatever was just played on the board and seemingly starts from scratch again.

The way I understand it, both "preserve analysis" and "permanent hash" sort of resolve this issue. However, chessbase does not remember my presets so I have to recheck the boxes each time, which sort of starts to become a pain in the ass (pardon my language).

So my question is actually quite simple:  Is there any way I can check these settings my default?
Thanks in advance for any help.

No.

But you can create a Rybka Personality that has your boxes checked and load that one.

Note: I hope you're aware of Persistent Hash bugs and their workarounds, if Rybka seems to do something unusual like insisting the line you refuted is best, switch to Multi-PV 2 and back on all the positions between the relevant position and the root, backwards. Also, I don't think "Preserve Analysis" gets along with Persistent Hash, keep that off.

well that's a bummer.

Thanks for mentioning the possible bugs with persistant hash, going to read into thank.

Well, having to create a personality isn't a big deal, the end result is the same (not having to tick the boxes each time.)

In the end I think you'll be happy you went with Rybka 3. The analysis is much more accurate and tactically sound. Also imo Rybka 3 is more agressive than 2.3.2a and ofcourse aware in general.
