This is a new logo suggestion for Rybka...
Parent - - By George Tsavdaris (****) Date 2009-10-12 13:30
What was the old one? :-P

These?

If yes then i like the old ones much better.
Parent - - By Felix Kling (Gold) Date 2009-10-12 13:35
almost noone liked them ;)
Remember it's a company's logo
Parent - - By Mark Eschle (*) Date 2009-10-12 14:14
Its good but i think the lighting effect distorts the ring

I preferred it like this

Parent - - By Felix Kling (Gold) Date 2009-10-12 14:16
mmh, okay. do you also dislike the engravement effect?
Parent - - By Mark Eschle (*) Date 2009-10-12 14:19
Engravement effect is good - perhaps the text could be a bit darker/more pronounced :)
Parent - - By Felix Kling (Gold) Date 2009-10-12 14:23
and with weaker light effect (see above)?
Parent - By Mark Eschle (*) Date 2009-10-12 14:28
Yes that's better - i would have an even weaker light effect (circle still appears a bit distorted on first looks) - maybe if you produced a series people could choose the best one
Parent - - By Felix Kling (Gold) Date 2009-10-12 14:27
I changed the light and replaced the graphic in the poll, it's just a minor change so it won't influence the poll that much I guess.
Parent - By Mark Eschle (*) Date 2009-10-12 14:30
Yep i think that one hits the nail on the head - good job felix!
Parent - By Banned for Life (Gold) Date 2009-10-12 19:17
The one on the right is very good except the pattern on the fish makes it look diseased...
Parent - - By Felix Kling (Gold) Date 2009-10-12 16:13
unfortunately this one scores about as bad as the old suggestions. Either there is no good solution to that problem, or my drawing abilities are just too bad :)

At least I keep on trying, which is usually the right thing to do :)
Parent - - By Eelco de Groot (***) Date 2009-10-12 19:22
Felix I would still think the original version 7 that you posted before looks better. Would it not be possible to have the central circle in that one throw more shadows on the ring below or somewhat to the side, so it looks more elevated? You could use engraved letters or maybe the division/tolerance  between inner and outer circle could be deepened a little bit but that does not really seem essential. The idea of a power button, it is not very original but just so people don't have the excuse that it looks like a blue condom...
Parent - - By Felix Kling (Gold) Date 2009-10-12 20:11
the problem with that icon is: it's too blue.
Parent - - By Mark Eschle (*) Date 2009-10-12 20:22
How about something like this felix? - it brings more of a chess feel into the logo
Parent - - By Felix Kling (Gold) Date 2009-10-12 20:42 Edited 2009-10-12 20:51
that's too much, I try to keep it simple.

Also, as I already said, Rybka may produce non chess products in the future. it's good to have a somewhat "neutral" logo.
Parent - By InspectorGadget (*****) Date 2009-10-13 10:58

> Also, as I already said, Rybka may produce non chess products in the future.

For now, she is a chess player. She will be adjusted accordingly when she plays poker :)
Parent - - By Trahald (**) Date 2009-10-13 12:26
I'm afraid I don't see the logic there Felix. If the checkerboard effect is wrong because you may produce non-chess products in the future, then surely it would be wrong to include 'for the serious chess player' as well.

Speaking only for myself I would like to see that uncompromising little fish called Rybka in the logo itself. I quite like the Aquarium logo for instance. For a time I actually thought that was the Rybka logo.
Parent - - By Felix Kling (Gold) Date 2009-10-13 13:04
you mean this one ?

I think that's quite ugly :)

re for the serious chess player: good point, but this could be easily exchanged (the chessboard as well maybe, ok, good argument :) )
Parent - By purplejacket (**) Date 2009-10-13 17:36
This one is horrible.  Better to have no logo at all.
Parent - By InspectorGadget (*****) Date 2009-10-13 17:53
Felix, this one is better than the current ones

At least it shows that Rybka is a chess teacher :)
Parent - By Trahald (**) Date 2009-10-13 20:48
The curse of too many different tastes, as you say. ;)

Please note that what I said above is not necessarily a vote for the checkerboard effect, I am all for your philosophy of keeping it simple.
Parent - By Banned for Life (Gold) Date 2009-10-13 20:51
This one belongs on the box with Captain ingo...
Parent - By topschach.de (**) Date 2009-10-15 10:44
This one looks like a teaching fish. Rybka is no teacher, it is a bulldozer. Thats why I would prefer to see an underwater-bulldozer with some bubbles. :-)
Parent - By Banned for Life (Gold) Date 2009-10-15 22:12
How about something from the Godfather? Maybe a suit with a fish wrapped in it...
Parent - By Banned for Life (Gold) Date 2009-10-13 20:47
If non-chess products include Rybka condoms, the logo will be perfect!
Parent - By Nelson Hernandez (Gold) Date 2009-10-12 20:46
Imagine this.  Shooting from an angle maybe ten feet above the surface of a body of water, looking out toward a horizon.  Imagine the camera positioned at imaginary square b0, pointing toward h8.  On the water, a chess board pattern much like the one you have here, and dramatically leaping from somewhere near the middle of the board, a dolphin, caught at the height of his leap.  Dramatic, huh?
Parent - - By Fulcrum2000 (****) Date 2009-10-12 20:47
I like this one better then the original :-)
Parent - - By Mark Eschle (*) Date 2009-10-12 21:02
Well a more subtle effect then
Parent - - By Felix Kling (Gold) Date 2009-10-12 21:59
my try on it: (I don't like it)
Parent - - By Felix Kling (Gold) Date 2009-10-13 00:41
what about a mixture with old ideas:
Parent - - By Dadi Jonsson (Silver) Date 2009-10-13 08:43
A drowning king? I would avoid that for Rybka.
Parent - By Felix Kling (Gold) Date 2009-10-13 10:25
you could interprete it as Rybka eats the king ;)

However that was just the Chessbase package design for Rybka 3.
Parent - By Vempele (Silver) Date 2009-10-13 12:34
Change the color of the text to make it clear that Rybka is white here. :)
Parent - - By Felix Kling (Gold) Date 2009-10-13 16:28
what about this? :)
Parent - - By Fulcrum2000 (****) Date 2009-10-13 16:50
Funny and not that bad ;-)
Make the fish a little 'softer', the lines are a bit to hard compared to the rest of the logo.
Parent - - By Felix Kling (Gold) Date 2009-10-13 17:03
Mmh, I somehow knew that we would go back to that old logo :)
Parent - By Mark Eschle (*) Date 2009-10-13 18:10
A fish may be good but not that one - looks timid and old & ugly
Maybe a fish with a crown on as rybka ia king of the chess engines!

  something like this maybe?
Parent - By Sunny (***) Date 2009-10-14 02:41
This is perfect....mixture of old and new ideas
Parent - - By ernest (****) Date 2009-10-14 14:50
I have always liked the looks of that fish. :-)

Shark logos are ugly and pretentious.
Parent - - By Felix Kling (Gold) Date 2009-10-14 15:01
:) I could use it again, but I need to pay some money to the artist. It's no big problem, apparently that logo is one of the best.
Parent - - By Uly (Gold) Date 2009-10-15 03:27
Or that's the impression, you've still haven't made a poll with this fish.

In Spanish we call it "la impronta", it's not that the fish is specially good, it's that it was the first one, so people see it and think about Rybka, and have problems conceiving a different fish being Rybka.
Parent - By Banned for Life (Gold) Date 2009-10-15 22:17
In English we this "one fugly looking fish". Its not that the fish is especially good, in fact its so fugly that people assume Rybka must be really good to get away with using this logo.
Parent - By Michael Hart (***) Date 2009-10-13 16:54
Needs improvement, but it's the best I've seen so far.
Parent - By purplejacket (**) Date 2009-10-13 17:36
Horrible.
Parent - - By RFK (Gold) Date 2009-10-13 21:26
Felix,

Why not do some acid and liberate your mind and may be then you'll come up with a finale to this never ending search of yours.

sidserious
Parent - - By Felix Kling (Gold) Date 2009-10-13 21:31
Acid? HCl, H₂SO₄, HI, HSO₃F + SbF₅ ?

Or Lucy in the sky with diamonds? :)
Parent - By RFK (Gold) Date 2009-10-13 22:48
A chess logo- think archetypal in stature-(Jungian-Joe Campbell) and go from there! Ultimately, that is where you are going or trying to dream up here. But you are missing the boat. What is the archetypal chess symbol(!)? Combine that with Rybka and you are creating myth, and that is what you want to do create a myth. Do your research!!!
Parent - - By Vempele (Silver) Date 2009-10-13 21:32
Welcome back. :)
Parent - By RFK (Gold) Date 2009-10-13 22:49
