A poll to rule them all!

Er, I mean, I just am curious if the people that think a shark should be used to depict Rybka are a majority.

I don't think a shark should represent her, it goes against the concept of a little fish being thrown in a pond, and she beats all the other bigger fishes.

Vas has delared 'Rybka' as 'little fish'.
And so Rybka should remain a (IMO friendly) little fish.

Has Rybka met the Kiel-Fisch?

and somewhat more cuddlesome than in

I whish 'my' Rybka.
(Birthday-Party: "It tastes funny, perhaps 'fish'? Can I open my eyes again now?")

Rybka is a shark! The only problem is that in computer chess, the idea isn't new:

(Zarkov 2.5/2.6 was about as strong as Fritz 1 or Chessmaster 3000, in 1991.)

In my opinion there are 3 groups of Names.

Bombastic ones
Colossus, Grandmaster, Chessmaster...

modest ones
Junior, Fritz, Rybka, Stockfish...

others
Hiarcs, Naum, Zappa...

And I think, it's no good idea for a very strong engine to search the direct bombastic neighborhood.
A terrible destroyer mustn't have the name 'terrible destroyer'.

Shredder would fit in your bombastic category and the name fit fine while it was the dominant engine for many years...

SMK says that the name Shredder wasn't meant to imply that the program 'shreds' its opponents. He has something else in mind, but I can't remember exactly what.

It has something to do with the sound or feeling, when you are surfing or sailboarding.

Doesn't matter what SMK had in mind when he came up with the name. Most people are not mind readers and associate the name Shredder with shredding opponents...

It feels good to finally be on the majority.
