We will review this and make a decision about it shortly. Convekta has been working on an interface. We'll just have to see if it's ready.

It's really too early right now. Victor will send me the interfaces this week and we'll go from there.

Vas,

Thanks for Rybka 3!!!

I would love to have Rybka on my PPC. What about  interfacing  with CEBoard, would Rybka work under CEBoard? Fruit is very powerfull under CEBoard with an excellent opening book named "Performance".

Fritz 3 for PPC is really Hiarcs and looking very powerful, I hope that you may release Rybka for PPC before them! or at leadt release the publick domain of Rybka under CEBoard.

I think that Rybka under a phone interface will be very weak and limited, just my opinion. A PPC will give the biggest flexibility a power.

Do you know if any programmer have try to interface Rybka to CEBoard?

Well just dreaming of a near future, may be just hope!

Best regards!

I'm not familiar with CEBoard, anyway we'll dig into all of these things quite soon.

Vas,

Here is the link for CEBoard http://www.zanchetta.net/CEBoard/

It is a very solid chess interfase and very flexible.

CEBoard's Integration Package contains the definition and documentation of CEBoard's interface,
sample files as well as emulator & debug versions of CEBoard's main executable. It is made for
engine developers who want to integrate their engine in CEBoard.

Main feature is chess game viewing and editing and host chess playing engines  (Crafty Classic 2004,
Fruit 2.3.1, Fruit 2.1, Toga II 1.0, 1.1 and 1.2.1a as well asGambit Fruit 1.0 4bx)

- It can read and write files conforming to the PGN standard
- It handles subvariations (any nested level) and comments
- It allows the setup of custom positions
- It provides a multi-criteria multi-file search feature :
  * player's name
  * game result
  * ECO code (if present in PGN)
  * Position
  * material

It is also able to connect to some dedicated chess computers or external boards via a serial interface :
- Imrecord port a game played against a Novag Star Diamond, a Novag Sapphire, a Novag Sapphire II, a Novag Super VIP, a Novag Super Expert C or a Saitek Renaissance
- Use a Novag Universal Chessboard to enter moves, both when editing PGN game or when playing against an engine,
- Use a DGT Board to enter moves, both when editing PGN game or when playing against an engine,
- Connect the Pocket PC to a PC and make games between Pocket PC Engines and PC Engines with Arena and Auto232 Support

I really like it and as you can see it is very powerful. Hope this information help!

Thanks,

Rick

If not CE board then perhaps the new Pocket Fritz 3 which can have the option for more engines, the defaults are Hiarcs and Crafty. The free PPC versions are o.k but are missing features that the commercial versions like PocketGrandMaster and Pocket Fritz have.So I would rather a professional approach for such a good chess engine as Rybka.
Parent - - By Vasik Rajlich (Silver) Date 2008-08-08 19:00
Ditto - we'll consider this if the interface is good and the protocol is clean.

http://rybkaforum.net/cgi-bin/rybkaforum/topic_show.pl?tid=4377 has some more information.I have been waiting patiently too, for PPC version.I suppose the developers have been very busy lately getting Aquarium ready for Rybka 3.It looks like the last half of 2008 is going to be good for the PDA chess enthusiast with Pocket Fritz 3 release on 13/8 and PocketGrandMaster plans a new version before the end of the year. But what I really want is Mobile Rybka.
Parent - - By Bouddha (****) Date 2008-08-07 09:46
Where have you seen that Pocket Fritz 3 will be released on 13/8 ?

a closed tourney with IM -GM avg elo 2455 and Fritz is winning it , last round later today

In fact Hiarcs is winning it :)
Parent - - By Bouddha (****) Date 2008-08-07 12:02
Well there is 1 round left

if Hiarcs draw or win the last round it wins the tournament without havind to share first place.

If it looses, it has to share first place.

The openend is one of the highest rated in this tournament.

But Hiarcs didn't lost a single game.

This will be very interesting.

Do you know when we will see/have the last game ?

Thank you for the attention and the time

*Pocket Fritz 3 (hiarcs 12 engine) win the Mercosur cup 2008 with 8/10

*Performance of 2700 elo whit GM norm

* No loss

*Axel Bachmann GM from Paraguay win the "human tournament" 7/10

for me is amazing¡¡ a GM in the Pocket of my jacket for play, training¡¡

I thing is much better than ChessGenius 2, PocketGrandMaster 3.01  and Pocket Frizt 2

I expect the wait for Rybka Pocket don't be very long,  I will be patient (but not so many) I will insist until I have it in my hands  and why not facing it to pocket Fritz 3

CEboard maybe can host the rybka engine, have many options and is free

Vytron Un gran saludo desde Uruapan Michoacan, la pasion nos une

My Rybka PPC Wishlist:
I only included features that I believe not too heavy for a mobile device:

1. Support for new screen resolutions like 240x400(Omnia), 320x320(treo), 640x480(Diamond) and 480x800(Xperia)
2. Support for Landscape view or even accelerometer.
3. Selectable Opening List (with editable symbols and comments)
4. Opening  test Mode (like bookup)
5. Allow to draw arrow hints at the board (which is saved in opening book)

Anything you wish to add?
Parent - - By MaximoIQ (*) Date 2008-10-27 23:55
I believe this one it is the opportunity to take the best thing of other programas (chessgenius, pocketGrandmaster PocketFritz),  add new characteristics and  have a top (the best) product.
some things  i like in others

1.-various kind of board and pieces, and no pieces (blind chess)
2.-read and edit pgn
3.-low price
4.-Runs on all Windows Mobile devices
5.-Free updates
6.-Make moves using stylus or 5 way pad
7.-strong play (this one is obvious)

I wait for this one for the sale before January 6

I think at this stage Vas should just concentrate on getting the chess engine ready for one of the existing PPC chess interfaces, preferably PocketFritz3 (as I currently own this).Sacrifices have to be made to run on old PPC with old operating systems and PF3 does not support anything earlier than 2003, I don't need free updates and prefer to pay a fair ammount for an improved engine, only free update if there are obvious bugs.
I have been waiting ever since Rybka burst onto the scene back in 2005 for it to make it to the PPC, and am excited that it may only be till the end of 2008 that I get my wish.

The first mobile Rybka will be compatible with Pocket Fritz 3. The Pocket UCI interface by Stas Tsukrov is now accepted as the standard. Convekta's "Pocket Champion" GUI will be packaged and sold with Rybka and will use this interface.

I applaud the decision of Chessbase to open the protocol and allow any engine can play in the GUI.

But I do not understand why you say that this UCI interface is now accepted as the standard.

The job of making your engine compatible with PF3, PGM, CeBoard, SCID or convekta will be more or less the same.

If you decide to make your engine compatible with PGM, maybe this will become the standard. :-)

For me PGM is very good Gui for Rybka engine by :

1.Support for all PPC System ( ppc2000, ppc2002, ppc2003 ...) also Smartphone .
2.low price .
3.More engines
4.good opening book about 200000 moves at small size (about 300 kb)
Parent - - By JhorAVi (***) Date 2008-10-29 11:02
Too bad all the interfaces mentioned don't have Selectable Opening List. It's the most vital feature :(
Parent - By MaximoIQ (*) Date 2008-10-30 02:04
Which GUI  has this characteristic "Selectable Opening List chess" and why you think is so important?

Sr. Vas is so difficult (in what way) to create an engine that  work in we say 3 GUI more popular like  PGM, PF3, Ceboard ?

in this moment in my PPC i have:   PGM, ChessGenius, PF2, ThinkerBoard (by the way free and for me one of the strongest engines... but bad GUI) and Ceboard,  buy another one (PF3)
will be for mi as the donkey of buridan .....but if you insist i will buy PF3

and plis Before January 6 2009  is this possible?

Thank you for you time
Parent - - By Cubeman (**) Date 2008-10-30 03:34
PocketFritz3 has very good opening training, with many books loaded. You can also select an opening from "tools" "opening training" and from there you are given the moves of that particular variation.Sometimes it is just 2 moves deep e.g Birds opening/From's Gambit gives 1.f4 e5.And others can give up to 10 moves deep. The inbuilt books give much deeper coverage and can be used as a training feature.
Now, if Rybka has the Nooman book the same as PC version then we are talking good quality.
Will Rybka for PF3 be a download option?
Parent - - By JhorAVi (***) Date 2008-10-30 07:05
But that's just it.  PocketFritz3 don't display a List of Selectable Opening Moves in each position.  I really wonder why it isn't implemented in any PPC because that feature is supposed to be the most basic need for every user.   Perhaps the system requirement to display an opening list is too demanding for a mobile phone.
Parent - By Mark Eschle (*) Date 2008-10-30 10:35
Pocket scid shows the opening book tree - see here http://scid.sourceforge.net/scidpocket.html

Very good app
Parent - - By Vasik Rajlich (Silver) Date 2008-10-31 12:23
I don't want to make too many promises yet. Generally:

Supporting other protocols like Pocket Grandmaster - maybe, I haven't decided. Really, the right way is to have an external translation layer. We'll see.

Pocket Rybka 3 sold without interface - yes, almost certainly.

Schedule - we'll see. I'm trying for December but there are other things taking up time.

Noomen PPC book - will be up to Jeroen. I imagine he'll get some proposals a bit later when things are more clear.

Hi Vas,

Just checking, it is Dec!!! happy holidays...

Any update or comments about Rybka for PPC.

Best regards,

Ricky
Parent - - By MaximoIQ (*) Date 2008-12-20 03:48
I joint to Ricky question

Mr. Vas remember, remember.

some facts from december

Pocket Chess HIARCS 12.1 for CEBoard is now available

ThinkerBoard 0.2.0026 became stronger than PF3 (and free)

Now I Have PF3 so no problem if RybkaPocket (or Rybkita  or Rybka Mobile (sounds better)) works on PF3 (GUI PF3>GUI Ceboard)

In the name of the PPC owners of my block I demmand have the software before January 6...

... or at least give us a date to be still behaving myself well and to save money

Does not import your religion I wish you  health and happiness  for the spirit
