I have a MacPro using dual OP's,  using bootcamp. Can  I
replace Vista with W7 without  involving Bootcamp ?
Thank you

You will need a patched Bootcamp to do this. I successfully did this. I suggest you make an image of your Vista installation first if possible.
I knew what to do after reading two article on the net:

Steps to take:

0) Replace your Bootcamp assistant with a patched one from LIMO (Google to find it; the link I used earlier is dead)
1) Find and download Winclone (free MacOS utility)
2) Make an image of the Vista partition with Winclone and safe it on the MacOS partition if possible.
3) Start Bootcamp assistant from within MacOS and reclaim the Vista partition (as a result your MacOS drive will have it's original size)
4) Reboot
5) Start Bootcamp assistant and define a fresh new partition for Windows 7 (follow instructions just as with Vista)
6) Reboot to install Windows 7 just like Vista

This procedure can be repeated where step 6 (installation of Windows) is interrupted while rebooting in order to restore the image you saved in step 2. I tried this after also making an image of Windows 7. Now I can switch back and forth between Vista and Windows 7. It's not like dual boot but it will keep you save :) I tested this safety net myself and it works flawlessly.
