> ChessOK  or FICS  ??

I'd suggest you try both and decide. I haven't tried ChessPlanet because I have to download it separately, and I'm biased for FICS since they made me tournament manager, I don't know how tourneys are handled at ChessPlanet.

it seems you are the Mammer on FICS. :)
Parent - - By Uly (Gold) Date 2009-02-18 20:48
:), it's the only way to play chess variants whenever I like, when I feel like playing crazyhouse I just create a crazyhouse tourney and I get 5 opponents ready to play, instead of making a crazyhouse seek that nobody will ever accept in reasonable time, or requesting a tourney that will be created by a TD that doesn't know how to advertise it. The bad part is that I've been playing so much chess variants that my normal chess rating has dropped, but I choose fun over strength.

what is crazy house?

I mostly play a lot of 1 minute games so my blitz rating is crap like 1300 :(

In longer time controls I feel I am around 1800 or 1900 at best

> what is crazy house?

A Shogi like chess variant in where you get to use the captured pieces against the opponent by dropping them back on the board, positions get extremely tactical and you may look over the board and don't know who is winning.

> I mostly play a lot of 1 minute games so my blitz rating is crap like 1300

My blitz rating is around that as well, on longer time controls I can play at 1700 at most, but that's mainly because these are different rating pools. In another thread I mention that weekend players seem much weaker than middle-week ones, so their rating seems overrated.

Wow Crazy house sounds extremely fun!!   I would like to try it sometime, I also enjoy the losing variant where you try to lose all of your pieces and fischer random chess as well.  Progressive  chess is a blast too!!

> I also enjoy the losing variant

Yes, it's an improvement from the suicide variant, on suicide the king is a normal piece, so all is over once you get into a material capturing net, on losers you have to escape from check, so it's easier to beat experienced opponents. I haven't played progressive chess on any server (only on Zillions), but I highly recommend the atomic variant, on that one pieces explode upon capturing other pieces, killing the 8 pieces on surrounding squares, and the point is to make the opposing king explode, unexperienced players lose really fast on their first games, but winning is very rewarding.

FICS supports normal chess, Chess960, crazyhouse, bughouse (crazyhouse for 4 players), atomic, losers, suicide, and other 7 wild variants (like asymetrical chess or shuffle chess), I think that's a plus.

Nice I am looking forward into playing real chess again.  I might just hold off on the book making a while.  I will be making a new FICS account tonight, despues de mi clase de espanol :)

How good are you at chess Vytron?  I would like to play a match against you some time :)
Parent - - By ChessKnight (**) Date 2009-02-18 21:02

You can play with here by joining Vytron Vs. PortCitySlim or Vytron should give us his FICs ID.

Parent - - By Uly (Gold) Date 2009-02-18 21:09
I asked Italian81 for his FICS ID long time ago I think, he never gave it.
Parent - By Italian81 (****) Date 2009-02-18 22:11
Im sorry I will post it tonight.  I am creating a new fics account since I cant delete my old one.  The only reason I want to delete the old one is over 90% of my games played there were on the 1 inch by 1 inch screen on babas before I learned how to increase the window size and all games were played using my finger as a mouse in 1/0 and 1/1 games

Not really a fair chance :P

I like both, but I spend more time on ChessOK (Chess Assistant Club). I like their interface (GUI ) better. They also have lots of strong players, plus if you use the Aquarium GUI their (ChessOK) interface is already linked in, meaning you can access ChessOK right from the Aquarium GUI.

Do they have a way to catch people that cheat with software.  When playing online chess I like to play either computer vs computer or human vs human not human vs computer :P
Parent - - By TedSummers (***) Date 2009-02-19 01:59
I don't know, also I don't think it would do much good if they did. Chessbase has it, and I don't think it helps them much. I just add cheaters to my ignore list when I think I have found them. My favorite feature is the "Auto Comment" feature that ChessOk (Chess Assistant Club) has. You can have the chess engine annotate your online games while you are playing them. When the game is over the engine analysis is displayed in the notation window.

does it tell you what opening is being played during a rated match as well?

Ted Summers

Are you the one who posted analyzed WCCC- 2009 game GM Topalov vs GM Gata Kamsky?
If so, please start a new thread here on WCCC-2009 GAMES and please keep posting until the tournament is over.

Also post other tournament Ciudad de Linares - 2009  games too coz all participants GM V. Anand (IND, 2791), GM V. Ivanchuk (UKR, 2779), GM M. Carlsen (NOR, 2776), GM T. Radjabov (AZE, 2761), GM L. Aronian (ARM, 2750), GM Wang Yue (CHN, 2739), GM A. Grischuk (RUS, 2733), and GM L. Dominguez Perez (CUB, 2717) are FIDE toppers.

It would be so interesting.
Make it also available for downloads. So provide us a link
Nice Job! Keep it UP! :)

> I like their interface (GUI ) better

FICS gives you the option to connect from many interfaces.

We have a report abuse option in where cheaters are caught and banned within 2 weeks from the report, I think that's better than waiting till everyone adds them to their ignore lists.
Parent - - By TedSummers (***) Date 2009-02-19 15:24 Edited 2009-02-19 15:27
This may be true, however it still does not stop cheating. Nothing has stopped it so far and I think nothing ever will. There is no Chess site where you are safe from cheaters. For the record, you can report abuse on Chess Planet as well.
Parent - - By SpiderG (***) Date 2009-02-19 15:54
On FICS you can ignore cheaters, and you can connect computers and analyze after your games on the Babas Chess interface. I think the Babas Chess interface is the best. It support all of the variants on FICS and It has premove ;) (I like blitz.) I really like FICS  because of Babas Chess. It makes it way better!
Thanks, SpiderG

Im not sure how much longer I will continue with yahoo chess....I can't stand the spam bots
Parent - - By Aaron2chess4u (**) Date 2009-02-20 00:43
You can ignore them....make them disappear. Click on their name...bottom left side of the little window check the box and you'll never see any posts from that person (note: this is in new yahoo chess)

I also agree that BabasChess is the best for Windows. I use Jin with Linux and YinYangChess with my Pocket PC.
