Hello friends,

I am new to computer chess.

I have bought Fritz11 a few weeks ago and now think of what is the best choice for rybka.
I decided on Rybka3 single processor.

Question: If I purchase R3 with Aquarium and later find that I don't like Aquarium, can I use the Rybka UCI Engine (that comes along with Aquarium)

in my nice Fritz11 GUI?

I am happy for now with F11 but want to try also Aquarium at no risk.

Second Q: Is there a way to make my Fritz11 engine play/analyze under the Aquarium GUI (in case I like the Aquarium better) ?

Last question:
Is there any difference in GUI features and in UCI Engine options between Aquarium or Chessbase purchase of R3 ?
I mean can I do sth. with Chessbase GUI exclusively and vice versa with Aquarium?

Thanks for your assistance!

Yes, you can. It can be used in any interface that supports UCI-Engines, you basically buy Rybka UCI + Aquarium GUI in that package. But I hope you will like Aquarium :)

No, that's Chessbase's strategy to publish their engines in a close format. However, Rybka is so much stronger that you won't need Fritz anymore. It's not too helpful to analyse with two engines, the "second opinion" thing is not as good as giving Rybka simply more cpu-time.

The GUIs are quite different. While Aquarium offers a relatively high number of options and advanced analysis features like IDEA, Fritz is rather basic but offers a bigger server for playing online, 3d boards and such things. You can download a demo for Aquarium here http://rybkaforum.net/cgi-bin/rybkaforum/topic_show.pl?tid=5583 or watch a video about Aquarium here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s9-t5bPJuWc

For the engine part, Aquarium allows reading and changing the values stored in hash while Fritz supports the Monte Carlo thing (which is a bit static if compared to Aquarium's IDEA and also similar to the randomizer, which is supported by Aquarium but can be set up in every GUI) and shared analysis. Since you already got Fritz 11, you can use all the features when you buy Rybka with Aquarium, since the latest versionof Fritz 11 (update the program) supports Rybka 3's new features, too.

That is very good to know. So when I buy the Aquarium version, I still get the benefit of the Monte Carlo feature in F11 (updated) GUI.

Thanks for the quick reply. I probably come up with a few more questions in the next days.

Good customer and tech support is a major point for my buying decision!

From what I understand, I also get the Dynamic and Human version delivered in the package?

Can I alter the playing style of R3 in an individual, custom way?

Thanks again!

Yes.

Sort of, to make it play more drawish and prefer open positions, decrease the Contempt, and to make it play less drawish and prefer closed positions, increase it. The changes are dramatic in playing style, just compare Contempt 0 to 5 to 10....

Yes, actually the GUI sold with Rybka 3 is the Fritz 11 GUI. The package could also be named "Rybka 3 Fritz GUI" :)
