StarSocrates was the number 2 in WCCC - Shatin 1995 - after Fritz 3 ( ex-equo , 0-1 in playoff ).

I think someone mentioned that here in the forum, but it was some time ago :)
Well if I'm correct before socrates, he developed Rex Chess!!! and it was a great program, with a very nice chess clock. I still have the original floppy disk! I tryed last year to use a DOS emulator to run the program but it didn't work.
Also have the Computer Chess Reports, Larry was one of the main contributors!

Yes, I did Rexchess with Don Dailey in the late 1980s before Socrates, although as is the case with Rybka, I did not write actual program code, just chess algorithms, numerical values for terms, and the opening book. But my involvement with computer chess goes way back before that. In 1967, as an M.I.T. student, I was the chess adviser/tester/book author for "MacHack", the first program to compete in human chess tournaments (it earned a rating in the mid 1500s).
