Added: Let me add a bit back ground for this match. Almost two months ago we (the Rybka forum) received the following interesting challenge:

Hello, Dear Rybka forum
The Gladiator chess forum ( players from former USSR/СССР )

On the Rybka forum we agreed it would be interesting to play such a match, but thought that we would like to play this match in corporation with the Hiarcs team.

Anyway you are hereby invited to take part in the match with a team that include at least five Russian GMs, and some strong advanced chess player that have access to at least one 16 core engine.

Please send me a pm if you are interested in supporting the combined Hiarcs/Rybka team.

A combined Rybka/Hiarcs team? In Rybka forum, it´s fraternize with the enemy. Punishment would be loss (of life).
Okay, these are the old reflexes. :-)

By the way, who un-stickied this thread and why?
Parent - - By SR (****) [gb] Date 2008-10-24 22:34 Edited 2008-10-24 22:37
I sticked once more. Look like someone by mistake unstuck it :-(

I think Vas' bug-treads should appear before this tread  but I am not sure how to do this. Maybe this is why it was unstuck.
Parent - - By Felix Kling (Gold) [de] Date 2008-10-26 10:00
I made it unstuck since there were too many sticky threads. Maybe making this thread unsticky was a mistake ;:)
Parent - - By Vempele (Silver) [fi] Date 2008-10-26 10:16
Maybe the book thread could be unstickied and a link to it added into the release notes thread (or the FAQ).

Also, the WCCC is old news. A link in a FAQ entry should be enough.
Parent - By Felix Kling (Gold) [de] Date 2008-10-26 10:18 Edited 2008-10-26 10:22
ok, you're right :)
But I think the book and the Rybka 3 information should be separated, so I added a link to the release notes to the Rybka 3 FAQ and made the release notes unsticky...

Who is playing which color in this game ?

regards

>Who is playing which color in this game ?

I wondered the same, and found it at one point:
3)The Gladiators have Black

Of course, I then (at first) thought the Hiarcs/Rybka squad to have chosen "Gladiators" as their nickname...
Parent - - By Uly (Gold) [mx] Date 2008-10-25 13:51
The name for the Hiarcs/Rybka team is "Icy Shark Bar", an anagram for "Hiarcs/Rybka."
Parent - By Dragon Mist (****) [hr] Date 2008-10-25 14:34
So cool! :-)

thats why i asked you.regards Paul.i hope when i make a little comment after a move it does not give anything away.when the game moves into dangerous  territory you must take my comments with a grain of salt.

we now have a choice of going back to main lines with 7.Re1 or experimenting with other moves.Watch this space

7.d4 (spanish, center gambit) is interresting (7...exd4 8.Re1), but more =  I think.
7.Re1 is a bigger andvantage for white ...

I hope we will not get this drawish Marshall's gambit ...
Parent - - By sarciness (***) [gb] Date 2008-10-30 14:36
Drawish?
Parent - - By lkaufman (*****) Date 2008-10-30 15:13
According to the Rybka 3 general book for chessbase (which is based on games at a pretty high level), the "normal" 8...d6 draws 58%, while the Marshall draws 60%, so I guess it is marginally more drawish. But I've seen quite a few losses by Black in high level games in the last year or so.
Parent - By Vinvin (***) [be] Date 2008-10-31 11:45
I bet with both players are > 2650, he rate of draws is even more higher ...
