Yes, an engine can only help to get better. Rybka is a good help, but you have to use your brain first, then look what rybka "thinks" (and try to understand this).

I improved very much only with Rybka and I will explain how:

Cheat with Rybka in Playchess(but only as a guest!!) - in that way you will earn rybka style and accuracy.
You will see that in your tournament games you will stop doing moves as "a3","Re1" withot a purpose.
You will always ask yourself in your games: Rybka will never play this move from this position ...  Or you will ask yourself:Shuld I grab this pawn with this Rook or this Rook? It's probably doesn't matter... In a second thought Rybka evaluate the position differentle after every grab... So think what is better!!Accuracy!

2.Play games at Playchess and analysed them after the game with Rybka. Learn from your mistakes!

With only this tips I improved 300 points elo rating in 6 months(without reading chess books)!!

Have a good luck!!

rybka's playing style is too engine-like,so it's not very trustable

the best engine to cheat with is spike, because of his human style of play,so it would be more believable
:)

it is just strong enouph to beat the strongest players,i was able to defeat a certain GM at a friendly match who's name i shall not mention,so spike is a very good engine

I prefer Rybka. It plays very simple but very strong. I think That in the end of any game I can understand all the moves it played.

In my last games I played exactly like Rybka in 80% of the moves. The others reward me the title of 1800 elo rating...

But a long the time I think I will accurate more and be a stronger player.

Oh, cut the crap.

Cheating will not make you any better at chess, it will just make you a better....well...cheater.

If your using a Dual-core or a quad core processor use Rybka 2.2 64-bit. If you own 8-way or 16-way or above (If you have them) use Rybka 2.1d3 or Zap!Chess Zanzibar. Rybka 2.3 or 2.2 is fine on single processors. If you have 2 or more computers use them. And also do not forget to consult or ask help from a friend, working as a team is efficient. These are the helps on being a good freestyle player.

By the way, cheating will only help you slightly on chess but it does help on being a better freestlyler but its not fair. I still suggest you go to the engine room at playchess.com or join freestyle tournaments (you could win cash and stuff) and maybe you could become the best cheater....um I mean engine user on the internet.

Hi,
Practice makes perfect as the saying goes ... A chess program\engine can really help simply because you have an opponent available at any time and you can practice your ideas ... Of course if you simply have no talent for the game then cheating will help your ego :)
