Hello,

These are really dumb questions but I must be reassured about a few points
before downloading the software from "share-it".

According to informations found on "share-it", Rybka 3 in its single
processor version supports Windows 98 (and a fortiori 98SE I presume),
Do you confirm this point ? (Note : my computer is endowed with a Pentium 3
paced at 500 Mhz and 256 Mbytes of Ram
)

Is a complementary GUI interface (such as Aquarium) necessary to use Rybka 3,
or is Rybka 3 single processor (as downloaded from share-it) already usable for play and analysis ?

Assuming this is the case, can the "Opening Book" be used (on Win 98SE) with Rybka 3 single processor version,
without complementary GUI ?

Thanks, in advance, for any feedback.

Yes, it supports Win98.
Using Rybka without a GUI is painful. There are several free ones out there.
The book can't be used without a GUI (specifically, you need ChessBase/Fritz or Aquarium; I don't know if any of them are compatible with Win98).

Thanks for your ultra-fast answer !

Painful, but usable for play as well as for analysis ?
(Please cofirm these two points)

The GUI should be compatible with Win 98.
Are there such GUIs ?

Which (preferably free), if any ?

Thank you.

Play, barely. Analysis, not at all.

Winboard, ChessGUI and Arena are the most likely candidates (and free). There's a demo version of Aquarium (heavily crippled, but you can test it for compatibility).

Thanks for these helpful information.

Regards.
