Well I have an annoying problem.
Dell only sell 32bit Vista with their home range! If I bought a dell laptop and installed 64bit vista myself would it work? would all the drivers be there??
grrrr silly people @ dell!

Go to small office side of dell and buy from there.
small office - what's that??
Sorry. I mean that when you select Small Business from Dell's main page you will get different selection of laptops. Maybe of those will suite better to you and I don't see any reason why you can't buy from small business selection.
About installing 64-bit xp. Should be possible and easy. Drivers are only problem and you should check availability of drivers from Dell.

It depends on the processor you order. If you take a Cor Duo like my T2300, you can“t use any 64 bit software. If take a Core 2 Duo like a T7400, it should work.
I have now had extensive talks with dell. They don't supply 64bit vista with any pc except their Precision (expensive) range. Although i could install it myself it is unlikely that the m/b drivers etc will be supported since dell THEMSELVES aren't making drivers for these products.
ho hum.

I could install my Technet Vista x64 on my Dell Inspiron E1505/6400 T7400 without any problems. All drivers were coming with Vista, except SD card reader, where you can use Dell drivers. Currently, only restrictions with Vista x64 are some applications, for example AVM Fritz Card ISDN software which currently is not working with Vista x64.
