I have seen nothing, but I have no hurry here :-). It must come from CB, because from pure R3 there was nothing to see.
Parent - - By Felix Kling (Gold) Date 2008-08-12 10:25
no, it's true for every Rybka :)
Parent - - By Roland Rösler (****) Date 2008-08-12 10:32
Ah, now it´s clear! You only get the bugfree version of R3 when you send Vas the decompilation of R3. :-)
Parent - - By Banned for Life (Gold) Date 2008-08-12 16:06
In many areas, claiming that your product was impossible to RE would gain it the attention of the RE community and guarantee that it would be widely hacked. Since the chess engine community is very small, this is much less of a problem.

The other factor is that the main reason for REing a product (to deactivate a copy protection mechanism) isn't applicable to R3, since it has no copy protection mechanism.

Yes.

It's also a lot more complicated than simple copy protection removal, and requires a much more skilled reverse engineer.
Doesn't mean that won't happen though.

But I guess, as some others have mentioned here:
"we will see":)

I certainly don't claim that Rybka is impossible to RE. Just wait and see :)

I guess your goal is to stymie a very small group of chess engine developers. Maybe you will succeed in this endeavor. For the great majority of non developers that just want to steal your work rather than claim it as their own, this can be done in only a few minutes.

Alan

For normal piracy, wait until Rybka 4 - we've got this all planned out! :)

Vas
Parent - By Akorps (**) Date 2008-08-13 08:41
If you can really solve the piracy problem you should patent your solution (I wouldn't put it past you to be able to figure out a way, given how brilliant Rybka is). I spent many years thinking about that problem, since grad school at Berkeley in the 1980s, without being able to solve it.

It is signed that with releasing of Rybka 4, Vas will release sources of Rybka 3.

Hi
I just received Rybka 3 (1cpu 32 bit).
I have some questions:

There 4 new engines:
Rybka 3 1cpu
Rybka 3 960 1cpu
Rybka 3 Dynamic 1
Rybka 3 Human

What are the difference these 4 engines??
Which of the are the best??

Thanks

How do you?

I have 200 posts per page and I see us in page 2.

EDIT - Ahh, missed it again...

>I have 200 posts per page and I see us in page 2.

I hate not having the whole thread on one page so I use the maximum (300). :)
Parent - By Uly (Gold) Date 2008-08-16 23:41
Ah! Thank you :)

But this must be new, because when I set my options (several months ago), I set it to 500 and it was set to the max 200. Now it was set to 300.

which Rybka 3 package did you buy? Rybka3 from Chessbase (+FritzGUI), Convekta (+Aquarium/CA) or download via ShareIt?
Parent - - By slan Date 2008-11-21 09:54
hi,
Rybka 3 Chess Base. Original.
can you help me?
thx very much,
roberto
Parent - - By Felix Kling (Gold) Date 2008-11-21 10:05
aha, ok. I don't know where to find the engine files in Fritz, as I gave away my Rybka 3 Chessbase copy since it wasn't running well under Linux :)
But I'm sure some of the other users know the exact path to the engine file
Parent - - By keoki010 (Silver) Date 2008-11-21 15:07
Do a search on the C: disk for rybka.  Chessbase has moved some files around.

I have  intel  Q-6600 duo core chip  is that the same as as multi -processor? In other words will it run deep Rybka to it's fullest advantag?
Parent - By Dragon Mist (****) Date 2008-12-09 04:33
What you have is a quad core chip, and yes, this is a 4-processor system which will give Deep Rybka 3 enormous boost.
Parent - - By titanium cranium (***) Date 2009-02-19 18:02
Vas,
Why is it that Rybka can analyze a line for, say, an hour, assign a value of say .40, and then I make a move or two down that same line, the value might go up to .50 or .60?
Parent - By Uly (Gold) Date 2009-02-19 18:17
Because you're sharpening the variation, reducing the horizon effect and examining positions that Rybka 3 couldn't consider at the depth of the root, the scores you get from future positions are more reliable that root scores as long as relative depth becomes higher (because Rybka is forced to extend the important variations) and you search for alternative moves at the same relative depth. It happens to all engines and it's the "secret" of successful interactive analysis and the logic behind the IDEA feature.
Parent - - By Vasik Rajlich (Silver) Date 2009-02-20 12:38
This should not happen instantly (although it can happen very fast).

What would R's estimated Elo rating be moving at 3 min/move with a 2.8 ghz, dual core machine? I know this is a tough question.
Parent - - By Uly (Gold) Date 2009-02-22 17:25

> I know this is a tough question.

It's though because it depends on the opposition, also, a different time control will be more effective than "3 min/move" as you let the engine manage its time.
Parent - - By Vempele (Silver) Date 2009-02-22 17:29

> It's though because it depends on the opposition, also, a different time control will be more effective than "3 min/move" as you let the engine manage its time.

Nah, ridiculous time usage constraints like that are even worse for humans so she'll be even stronger than with a normal time control.
Parent - - By Uly (Gold) Date 2009-02-22 17:32
Well, the human might blunder out of boredom after Rybka takes 6 minutes for 2 obvious recaptures, so you might have a point.
Parent - By Banned for Life (Gold) Date 2009-02-22 19:00
But Rybka already does this! I once had to wait almost two minutes for Rybka to recapture a queen pinning the king against the side of the board with no other moves possible. Yes, I know its because of the poor ponder implementation...

Alan

Those are the Rybka engines.  They are not called Deep Rybka.  But they are multi core x64 versions.
Parent - By Vempele (Silver) Date 2009-06-15 18:39

> rybka 3

That's 64-bit Deep Rybka.

> rybka 3 960

The 64-bit Deep Chess960 version.

And so on.

http://chessbase.com/newsdetail.asp?newsid=5634 says Rybka 4 will be available this year and refers to the not existing site http://www.rybkachess.net

Here in the FAQ I cannot find details about the schedule for version 4. What is the schedule?
Parent - By Uly (Gold) Date 2009-08-03 11:37
To improvise?
Parent - By Banned for Life (Gold) Date 2009-08-03 14:19
Referring people to a nonexistent web site to see the nonexistent Rybka 4 release schedule is actually a very nice touch! :-D
Parent - By Vasik Rajlich (Silver) Date 2009-08-04 06:13
The schedule for Rybka 4 is still TBD ..

Can anyone tell me why UCI_LimitStrength, UCI_Elo parameters are not available under Fritz 12 GUI? Can this "issue" (or maby feature) be solved?
Also, if you are kind, can u tell me an application which allows to allocate only a percent of processor time to rybka (or/and any other software program)?

thanks
Parent - By Felix Kling (Gold) Date 2010-04-27 18:23
Some parameters are recognized by your GUI and accessible via other dialogs than the uci parameter dialog. I guess UCI_LimitStrength can be modified via a strength option somewhere.

Dear Sirs,
I have recently purchased Rybka Aquarium 4  and I am applying to you with the following question. Which of three engines Deep Rybka 4960 w32, Deep Rybka SSE42 w32 or Deep Rybka 4 w32 is the strongest in terms of a match analysis while playing regular chess and why?

Sincerely yours,

Andrey Lezhnev.
Parent - By Uly (Gold) Date 2010-10-27 18:22
The SSE42 if your system can run it.~

Also, wrong thread, this is for Rybka 3.
- - By andrey lezhnev Date 2010-10-28 07:22
Please help me with several more issues. Which is the strongest Rybka 4 engine? Which hardware does this engine require? Which is the strongest engine for hardware we currently use, namely CPU 2xIntel Xeon E5405? Could you also provide us with the information comparing in percentage the engine we can use in our hardware with the strongest one? I mean something like the strongest engine is twice as powerful than the one you are currently using.
Thank you in advance.
Looking forward to hearing from you soon.
