Hi All,

The second game of the match between the Hiarcs and Rybka fora has just started, and we will play our first move in probably less than 12 hours (possibly significantly less depending on how people end up voting).  In general, things are the same as in the last game: 48 hours per move per side, and extra time does not carry over to the next move.  In the second game, it will be Rybka Warriors vs. Hiarcs Headbangers, as we will have the white pieces.  The first game can be seen in this thread.

If you wish to contribute to the discussion and votes for our side, please join the Rybka Warriors!

Should I stick this thread and un-stick the other one?
Parent - - By turbojuice1122 (Gold) [us] Date 2008-08-05 15:02
Yes, that would probably be appropriate--thanks!

What is the reason behind such games. Are teams obliged to use only their Engines team ?
Parent - By turbojuice1122 (Gold) [us] Date 2008-08-05 22:06
The reason is for fun and to try to play the highest level of chess currently conceivable.  The teams can use any engines or hardware at their disposal.

Incredible.  My suggestion prevailed!  I am inspired to sing:

Give me some men who are stout-hearted men,
Who will fight, for the right they adore,
Start me with ten who are stout-hearted men,
And I'll soon give you ten thousand more.
Shoulder to shoulder and bolder and bolder,
They grow as they go to the fore.
Then there's nothing in the world can halt or mar a plan,
When stout-hearted men can stick together man to man.

It was either that or Churchill quotes.  I trust I made the right choice.

Yes, the Hiarcs Headbangers are going to bring you lots of fun, probably another game where the Warriors think that they have an easy win but in the end find out that no matter what they do they can not beat us.

I see that is has become like anti-computer humans against the strongest computers?  They see themselves as having gained a moral victory if they are able to hold a draw after getting themselves into a worse position...

Hah! I guess you are kind of right, in my opinion every move we could have played would have led to at least a draw for black. Nf6, d5, e6, f5 or any decent move would gain at least 1/2 points and so there lies the problem. How to choose a move when all moves being considered will lead to the same result? Answer for me is to choose the move that leads to the most humiliation for the other team when they lose or draw the game. 1...f5 has a lot more to offer for us this time then the Morra, just wait and you will see. BTW I would have played this against 1.d4 as well, I knew you would not play 1.e4 so I had plenty of time to get ready for 1...f5.

No, I think the real reason for Slim's giddiness is the Hiarcs Team gala banquet served post-game 1.  That and he is not responsible for the onerous task of shoveling out the load of tripe that remains in the trash thread. :-D

This games will be very interesting.

I always had the filling that whit should take the advantage in this type of opening and that we nearlly never see this opening at the highest levels but failed to demonstrate a clear advantage for white.

Yes it will be interesting and we(team hiarcs) are trying to select openings that are rarely played at this level.

well, you guys have a strong and experienced team... you can let yourselves 'experiment' a little more :)

> well, you guys have a strong and experienced team... you can let yourselves 'experiment' a little more :-)

We already experimented by sacrificing a pawn to you guys in game 1 and that resulted in you not being able to beat us. What more do you want? Knight odds?
Parent - - By tomski1981 (*****) [ca] Date 2008-08-15 23:31
well, of course it wasn't a pure sacrifice, it did give you (or should have given you) initiative. and obviously it was unsound, as your attack petered out to nothing, even before it began. it's really sad you couldn't win with white.

besides, you keep calling it 'an experiment', but let's call a spade, a spade. in reality you're just covering up for the fact your team voted for a bad move. i wouldn't be surprised if you even were suspicious you had a mole or something. of course, you don't.... that was a 100%-hamster idea :-p
Parent - - By Bobby C (****) Date 2008-08-15 23:43

> it's really sad you couldn't win with white.

When you don't win with white and didn't sacrifice a pawn then what is that going to be? Pathetic?
Parent - - By tomski1981 (*****) [ca] Date 2008-08-15 23:52
if we don't win, then that means you guys got extremely lucky
