Will there be any chat available, or should we make some discussion threads here to go along with the popcorn and beer? :-)
Parent - By rhombus (*) [fi] Date 2007-03-06 14:04
Popcorn and beer is ok, was thinking to have some rybka and chips myself though. :)

It's past time and the above link leads nowhere
Parent - - By gruenkohl (**) Date 2007-03-06 16:11
nothing new under the sun --> bugs in Rybka, bad support by Convekta and empty websites
Parent - - By Michael Waesch [de] Date 2007-03-06 16:14
You are right. I also get the 404 page not found error. Seems like Convekta/Vas/Rybka are competiting Chessbase in the wrong field: Incompetence ...

Mike
Parent - - By gruenkohl (**) Date 2007-03-06 16:20 Edited 2007-03-06 16:36
Mike,

to reach the level of incompetence it will take Vas/Convekta lightyears. If I think on the god playing man on the CB server (Mr. incompetence in person = Stickles), Vas and Convekta will never reach this level.
Parent - - By Michael Waesch [de] Date 2007-03-06 16:25
I agree, but I only stated that they now compete in this field with them. Many people were already p***ed off by the idea of handicaps, especially piece odds - and then en plus a blank webpage??? Why couldn´t they ask an admin of ICC to relay it? Relaying always functioned properly on ICC.

Mike
Parent - - By gruenkohl (**) Date 2007-03-06 16:28
see here, http://216.25.93.108/forum/viewtopic.php?topic_view=threads&p=102178&t=12137 --> they will start a little later but announced it only in another forum.
Parent - By Michael Waesch [de] Date 2007-03-06 16:34
Well, that´s kind of weird. The Rybka-forum should be the primary one and why not put an information directly on the advertised page? With that 404 error it just looks like everything is messed up, went completely wrong and will never be up ...

Actually I disagree on the bugs in Rybka part: the new Rybka versions do not have any more bugs than the new version of any engine. That happens a lot. And those engines have been around for quite a few years and have mostly stabilized.

When taking into account the short amount of time Rybka is with us at all, I'd say it's surprising (to me, as a programmer), that Rybka does not have a LOT more bugs...

I'd have to agree about Convekta. They'd better pull it together and snap out of the non-service oriented coma that their in, or they're just going to hurt Rybka a lot (and consequently, themselves...).
Parent - - By Michael Waesch [de] Date 2007-03-06 16:31
You are right. Compared to buggy Fritz, Rybka is god of engine chess, but if we don´t complain about the existing bugs, Vas wouldn´t even know that these problems exist - and also in contrary to Chessbase Vas takes it really serious and works on them. Now that the tablebase issue could at least be eliminated, Rybka has now a good grip in the engine market - although there is always enough room for improvements. If it was only Convekta I would doubt that we will benefit from further improvements, but Vas still seems to be the guarant of constant improvements and I was certainly impressed that he was able to put out a better version so fast after seeing that 2.3 didn´t meet the expectations. And if I have understood it correctly, there will be a thoroughly tested update version (2.3.2) to end the 2.x series. So all in all we got a very fair deal for our money.

Rybka Team and Conveckta Please send Rybka 2.3 upgrade for Fritz UCI as promised, when you gave the 2.2 pathway.

You have my email under capatal...Please expedite! and Thank you for your prompt attention to this (minor matter?)

OK, Carlsen already demolished Ivanchuk, you can start the Rybka-Ehlvest broadcast now! :-)

Parent - By gruenkohl (**) Date 2007-03-06 16:39

Mike

Thanks MIKE! So they will update us as needed?

FWCC
Parent - - By Michael Waesch [de] Date 2007-03-06 16:44
Can´t tell. There was only a small announcement on the CCC forum by Vasik that they start a little later today - for whatever that means ...

Mike
Parent - - By Jim Walker (***) [us] Date 2007-03-06 16:45
That post was from early this am and does not indicate they will start late.  The link given is to the above and does not work!
Parent - - By Michael Waesch [de] Date 2007-03-06 16:48
"We'll be starting a bit later today."

That´s the quote from CCC.

Now it´s almost 6pm here in central europe and nobody seem to know anything - except that the provided link doesn´t work. If there has been a delay, we should have been informed by now.

No good start ...

Mike
Parent - - By Jim Walker (***) [us] Date 2007-03-06 16:52
"a bit later today" refers to the fact that post was made a around 4am this morning.  There is nothing to indicate it will start LATE.
Parent - By Michael Waesch [de] Date 2007-03-06 16:53
Well, the I have misinterpreted this - but that the page isn´t up by now can be seen by everyone.

Mike
Parent - - By Michael Waesch [de] Date 2007-03-06 16:52
Sorry, I still get the 404 error page.

Mike
Parent - By FWCC (***) [us] Date 2007-03-06 16:54

Mike I meant the link to CCC with the announcement from Vas. The link to the match does not work here too :-(
Parent - - By Michael Waesch [de] Date 2007-03-06 16:58
Now 1 hour late and still no information. :( :( :(

Mike
Parent - - By gruenkohl (**) Date 2007-03-06 16:59
Perhaps Mr. Stickles is the TD :-)
Parent - By Michael Waesch [de] Date 2007-03-06 17:01
LOL, if I knew that for sure, I would just turn off my computer and would go watching TV instead.

But this is really annoying and I do hope that I needn´t earn my fourth pawn here while waiting for something to watch! :)

Mike
Parent - - By Alkelele (***) Date 2007-03-06 16:59
YAY, it's UP!!!!!
Parent - - By Michael Waesch [de] Date 2007-03-06 17:03
Now if I only knew if the page will refresh automatically or if I am hired as button presser for constantly manually doing this ...

Mike
Parent - - By gruenkohl (**) Date 2007-03-06 17:06
I think there will be no automatic refresh.
Keep in mind it is software from crappy Chessbase
Parent - - By Michael Waesch [de] Date 2007-03-06 17:08
Yes, I saw the "generated by Fritz" and nearly vomited.

Besides, I see as information on the screen:

Player A = New game
Player B = R2.3.1 MP Ehlvest

No moves so far. 1 hrs and 10 mins late. :(
Not very promising. :(

Mike
Parent - By gruenkohl (**) Date 2007-03-06 17:10
I think Ehlvest offred a draw in the start position and TD Stickles walked in the room :-)
Parent - - By Jim Walker (***) [us] Date 2007-03-06 17:00
Now we have a start position.  1 hour late!
Parent - By Michael Waesch [de] Date 2007-03-06 17:02
Could they have mixed up summer and wintertime here in Europe?

Mike
Parent - - By Vasik Rajlich (Silver) [hu] Date 2007-03-06 17:19
Hi -

we're just now getting started.

The games will also be broadcast over Convekta's server. Please see the (edited) post above for instructions re. how to connect.

Larry's handle there is "Larry_Kaufman". I'm also there now (as "VRajlich").

Seems the broadcast has crashed now? No content anymore, just an empty page...
Parent - - By Henrik Dinesen (***) [dk] Date 2007-03-06 17:48
Firefox works fine, however it claims Rybka is playing Kaufman, Larry!
Parent - - By Jim Walker (***) [us] Date 2007-03-06 18:18
You guys should follow the instructions and install the software and go to the site.  It's a good place to play chess also.
Parent - - By Michael Waesch [de] Date 2007-03-06 18:27
If you have the Chess Assistant software it´s already built in. Just click on internet and "connect to the Internet Chess Assistant Club".

Mike

Parent - - By Juergen Faas (**) [de] Date 2007-03-06 19:13
I don´t see the name "Larry_Kaufmann" in the player´s list.
