I have been playing chess all my life, but have never reached an stunning level. So I am into gambits because I love aggressive, surprising and attacking play. I play a lot on my pda: Hyarcs, which is an amazingly smart chess program. Then I analyse the game with Fritz 9 or shredder10 or Rybka.
My first question was about the scottish opening. Playing black I find it very hard to win. So does Rybka. (See my post on the general forum). Made I should divert to the Latvian gambit: 1. e4 e5. 2.Nf3 f5!? Suggestions are most welcome. Ravenhousepim.

If you want fun and good winning chances, you can try 4...Qh4 in the Scotch. Black threatens to win the e4 pawn, and white's critical play is to sacrifice that pawn. So, you will play against a gambit :-) But trust me, it can be a whole lot of fun. In many lines, black also gets a lot of activity, or just makes fun out of white as white loses his initiative, still being a pawn down. There are many different main lines, and in most of them black has definitely sound play at his disposal. Gutman wrote a dense book about the variation, and if you look in that for a few weeks with an engine, you may be able to find something convincing for white. But for amateurs, it's anybody's game.

Sorry about my suggestion on the other board, I misunderstood you and tried to come up with a good white line, not black!

In the Latvian Tony Kosten came up with a really good line some time ago:

1. e4 e5 2. Nf3 f5 3. Nxe5 Nf6 4. exf5 Nc6 5. d4 Qe7 6. Be2 Nxe5 7. dxe5 Qxe5 8. O-O Bd6 9. g3 O-O 10. Bf4 Qxb2 11. Bc4+ Kh8 12. Bxd6 cxd6 13. Qxd6

and I did it again!!  It's a good line for white, anyway!
