Biggest problem I have with Winfinder 2 is periodic crashes. I hope Vas can put whatever fixes he put into Rybka 2.2n2 into WinFinder to fix these. I haven't had any crashes of 2.2n2 with almost continuous use since it came out.

Playing WinFinder on the CB server is very interesting. Many times it gets beaten slowly, but sometimes it rips the opponent a new one. I think with a highly tuned book, it would play reasonably well. For this use it would be nice to have a playing speed adjustment, as it plays too fast right now.

Regards,
Alan

In this particular position Rybka WinFinder takes more than 3 times the time taken by Rybka to find the best move:

r3kb1r/pppb1ppp/2n1p3/1B6/1nQq4/2N2PP1/PPPP3P/R1BK2NR b kq - 4 11

bm Qd4f2

Many engines take a lot longer to understand that a7a6 is not very effective.

Please show how Qf2! wins. "Winfinder"  Get it?

Qf2 is the best move for the current position. To prove that it is a winning move... just play engine-engine matches from Qf2 and you'll see.

I just found a7a6 very interesting...  as it was the move evaluated by a host of engines. With a7a6 played against Rybka (by Hiarcs, Chess Tiger, etc), Rybka had 3 draws and 2 wins! (Timings: 40/5 repeating and 40/20 repeating).

Will be experimenting some more to understand the position better.

Yes, there will be a WinFinder 2.3.

There are some interesting ideas with the tool. For example, I think a "WinFinder+LossAvoider" could still be really strong tactically and much stronger than WinFinder in actual play.

I got yesterday a position in mid game , where winfinder announced a mate in two!! (and gave the variation) ; hard as I tried I could see no mate at all , it was simply a bad move , losing a piece.

If some one wants the position , I can send it.

Hi Yoav,

Rybka WinFinder has some bugs in displaying the "Mate in x moves". You can search for Uri's posts regarding the same in the previous forum.

Hopefully, it should get fixed in the next version.

Regards,
Anil.

Take a look at this screenshot from the third freestyle. Notice that it took over four minutes for DS9 to find a mate in 1. I think SMK was experimenting with personalities at the time. This one should have been called "Kramnik".

This shouldn't happen. Can you post the FEN and analysis (if it's not too much trouble)?
