I have not been reading this forum for a while, so I am sure this question was asked tons of times. sorry.

Is there any promised/supposed/expected/tentative list of new features for rybka3?
Is there any supposed/expected/tentative/scheduled release date for rybka3? (Probably not)
Is rybka3 to be released before the next freestyle? Any news about the next freestyle (teams/HW involved, new rules)?

thx

The tentative schedule is that Vas is not going to give dates to give dates yet. It's expected that the date of the announcement of the date of the release announcement will be somewhat later than expected.

Except, that the originally late release date was expected to be sooner, than the previously relayed release date, that has now become delayed due to the late release of the later release that can't be released as a date becauase of the late release date.

This post is turning more mind-boggling than I "promised/supposed/expected" ;-)

Yes, the never announced released dates are delaying the not planned release dates.

No, that's 2.3.2a. I've heard it'll be released in June - year undefined.

Actually, Henrik and  Harvey, I'm glad you asked that very question-

Due to the duration between the last released version, Vas, is skipping Rybka 3 and going right into the releasing of Rybka 9.3. It is scheduled to be released with Rybka Whole Wheat Cereal. If you send in 40 bar coded box labels (15.3 ounce) you will get a Rybka decoder ring.

Oh! By the way, the name " Rybka " will be changed to " BaBKa."  Quad BaBKa = Marble BaBKa

Vas said that it would be fun to release Rybka 3 before the freestyle, and then beat everyone using it (Better than just using Rybka 3 to beat everyone using 2.3.2a.) But as Vempele said, we don't even know when is Vas going to tell us the release date of the release date for Rybka 3.

Gosh... I wonder if he has at least scheduled a date, in which he will disclose the date when the release date will be communicated :-)

He has, but he's not telling ;)

I wonder if the delay in releasing Rybka 3 is got to do with all the talk about updates, if theres bugs? Vas seemed very sure that there would be no updates.

I got the opinion (from the times he mentioned it, in various posts) He was determined to not have any updates to R3, either bugfixes or any other. Maybe this is the delay??
Parent - - By Uly (Gold) [mx] Date 2008-03-13 00:24
They claimed that the delay is because the search isn't 100% optimized, and I trust them.
Parent - - By Nelson Hernandez (Gold) [us] Date 2008-03-13 02:03
If the release was 100% ready right now I think he'd delay it and keep tinkering with it until the day after 8th Freestyle finished.  This isn't paranoia or narcissism.  It's just good strategy.  If the release really is 100 ELO better than 2.3.2a that's one hell of a weapon to have in your arsenal.
Parent - By Banned for Life (Gold) Date 2008-03-13 05:43
I hope you're right. With a few other engines running not too far behind 2.3.2a, there are some interesting strategies that can be employed. As far as Vas is concerned, I've already proven beyond a reasonable doubt that I can easily lose with equal software. :-)

Alan

I think that the rybka release schedule has priority with respect to the freestyle events. I do not think that a release may be posticipate more than -say- one week because of freestyle. I mean, money is money.

Features: lots :) - the evaluation is nearly rewritten and the search is getting there
Date: still TBD
Freestyle: it's been announced, qualification April 11-13 and final two weeks later

Can you give us a probability of Rybka 3 being released before/after the Freestyle?
Parent - - By Vasik Rajlich (Silver) [hu] Date 2008-03-13 18:20
I can give you a range of probabilities :)

Seriously, I've found that even the safest-looking estimates can backfire ..

How about you give the announcement on April 1st?
Parent - - By turbojuice1122 (Gold) [us] Date 2008-03-13 18:52
I think that on April 1st, he should give an estimate for when he will announce the release date. :-D
Parent - - By tomski1981 (*****) [ca] Date 2008-03-13 19:03
on april 1st he can tell us anything he wants.... on april 1st it doesn't matter... Tell us the day before, or day after :)

Vas, do you think that neuro nets may increase power of score function of rybka, besides of great time of calculations. Neuro nets are very useful to search "invisible" euristics - euristics of dinamic, attack, promote. For example, you CAN'T find totally euristics, properties of positition, that garranties promotion. Human can not know everything, but programm that have powerful calculation abilities must learn yourself, does not it?
p.s.: sorry for my English, in Russia, Vasic, only students are know English good.
p.p.s.: please reply me.
Parent - - By Vasik Rajlich (Silver) [hu] Date 2008-04-14 12:40
Sure, in theory neural nets could be used to discover some new heuristics which don't come naturally to humans.

In practice, I there are massive issues with training the neural net on something as complicated as chess, and good progress can be made with other methods. It's not something for the next few years, IMHO.

Vas, do you heared something about dividing of score variable? Can you say me, is this idea realiseble in rybka. I think that dividing of score variable can give you vector of microanswers which you can use at situation on the board... ps: what is name of rybka - osyetr, piksha, selyedka, maybe piranha?
