I'm looking for a way to limit the number of autogenerated tasks in the "searching for alternatives" phase.
I've been using the limit variation length and limit black/white alternatives and this has kind of worked, but I would much prefer to have something like multiple "search for alternatives" phases for each "prolonging" phase.

Is there anything like that?

Please explain further. I do not understand what you mean.

In an IDeA project, under the tab "Home - IDeA" if you select "edit" and then in the window that comes up you select the tab "IDeA" the topmost check box is "Automatic Tree Expansion (IDeA)"

If this option is selected, when there is at least one root and no tasks remaining, the project will automatically generate tasks to be processed. The type of tasks generated are either: alternatives, prolongation, or deep prolongation.

Any long-running project will encounter a problem where the number of alternatives generated becomes too massive.

I would like to know if there is a way to limit the number of alternatives generated other than using the "limit variation length" and "limit black/white alternatives to" setting.
