Well, i read some very devot tendencies in your final comment there, so i thought i will invite you on my little English wargalleon, in hope you will be sweatly rowing in your dearly beloved captain Antares direction soon. Thanks for taking up both the challenge and answering with a pirates move, as we both know a lazy corr-slave & dura-mutineer who would have simply played 1...e6 (*yawn*) here...

> I've imbibed gallons of Earl Grey .. !!

Is there something a captain must know about that one?

Anyways: Sail high!, will play the opening just out of mind eh memories, actually never played that one in corr-chess.

Enjoy! (as long as you can)

Oh, who's that guy? Do you both know a guy that would play 1...e6!? against the English? Invite them here and tell them I'd gladly play against their defense.

Max just copied the move I made against him on our first game, but since game continued 2.Nc3 expect something original now

Parent - - By Uly (Gold) Date 2020-02-02 22:42
Oh, but I already made a whole map of chess with all your potential move choices, so pointing to Nc3 might not make a difference . Also, the 2.g3 box is entirely missing, do you know why? Because it's just some irrelevant tiny box on there, because 2.Something 3.g3 is the right move order. Unless you're going to stay in that box and avoid transposing to a popular line, if so, I apologize in advance.

I read (in an interview with Karjakin) that Carlsen plays computerwise in the bigger BALLSPARK - gotten himself built some >$50K machine... so i thought that Qb3 must be well researched, and seeing Mr. Ding avoiding that what was already known (and Russian-Gruenfeld similar) Be6/Na6-manoveure -which can be just a cannonball into one's own sail therefore sinking ship- for b5, i concluded[dangerously!] there must be something in it...

English is always a long 0.00-struggle with the hope for interesting endgames.

And yes, that 3...c6 is a pretty nice idea which i obviously never face OTB,
and maybe its a good reason to go for an earlier Nc3 (like Uly suggested,
yet a draw anyways), but i obviously wanted to try here "one of my lines".
I tried to make 9. Qd1 work, but i didn't find a useful continuation after 9...Qa5 (neither 10. O-O nor Kf1 nor...).
If i knew you would play the Dutch i wouldn't have played any English. :yell:

Draw agreed. You played a perfect defense here, Be6/Na6, then 11...h6! with that beautiful Nh7-manouvre (delaying Nc7) and White has nothing... wonder whether i have overseen something, or whether Carlsen's 5. Qb3 is more OTB-only and Ding's b5 (avoiding Be6, which was known that time already) had just practical reasons.
