This was mentioned somewhere before but I couldn't find it so starting again.

I encountered the problem where an infinite analysis task doesn't get added to the list of tasks again last night.
Pretty strange how it happened because the first 4 tasks I added worked fine, with a letter F in a white box showing the active task.
The 5th and 6th ones started the task but did not add any indication of it. Each task was assigned to a single remote engine.

Somewhat annoying not to be able to view the task and not be able to stop it without completely stopping IDEA.
It also seems to happen randomly, since the other time I saw this was with the first task added.

I have seen this happen even with AQ 2017... Because of this, I pretty much limit myself to the Sandbox.

I notice this sporadically too. However, I've found that, if I wait until IDEA completes a cycle, it shows up.

Unfortunately there is no "cycle" in my case, since I feed positions manually, from the database, with IA, or tree strategies.
Never actually turn on automatic expansion.

Minor problem anyway.
Maybe it will be fixed in Aquarium 2025.

Too funny.

I think this is related to the problem I mentioned in another post. I schedule a custom task for the rest of the line. Sometimes it gets added, sometimes it is not added. I did not observe this in previous versions of Aquarium 2020.

I have a similar problem.
I have one root position, Engine is set to "Add positions and evaluations to IDeA tree", automatic tree expansion is turned off => I chose all positions from current position.
Now it starts from the last position backwards and when it has analysed all positions, it continues to expand the tree endlessly.
Does any one know what I am doing wrong or any solution?

Hello Sanaz.

We may be able to help if you can give more details.

It sounds to me like you are referring to the choices in the custom task menu.
Infinite analysis will of course expand the tree infinitely until you turn it off.

Hi Ghengis-Kann,
your guess is right, I was referring to the custom task menu. I use 1s and 29 depth and untick automatic tree expansion. It is weird because when restarting aquarium before starting IDeA seems to solve the issue.

my observation is not version related, so what You are saying might be something else...but what I have noticed least in some cases it's seems that there is an explanation.
Let's say that at some point in a variation someone adds for example an auto-play task.
If it does not added right away to the task list...then most of the times this happens because for that very position there is already some kind of other task in the task list. Maybe this position it was added to the roots list (and root analysis  for the position isn't finished yet), or there is an automatic task generated by Idea for that position waiting already. Anyway, in this cases when I push the button for adding the task (and it does not add it..) then in the Stage Status window it jumps right on the task that it is already running (green), or scheduled (red) and waiting for processor time in the tasks list. Something similar happens when again...added an auto-play to the task list...and it is still waiting in queue...and that position is added to the roots this case id does convert the auto-play task (p) a root task (a).

This issue of running Infinite analysis at a key position within an IDeA session and not having the i.a. task show up with a white "f" in the IDeA task list is a serious problem. It means that one cannot manage one's i.a. tasks within an IDeA session, as usually there is no way to stop the i.a. task or or add the i.a. output to the IDeA notation window, since one cannot see the task.
I say "usually" because occasionally the added i.a. task does show up in the IDeA task list, but with a great delay when the IDeA scheduler gets around to noticing the i.a. task.
If no one (including Victor) has a workaround for this i.a. issue, then it should be eventually fixed.

Click minimax... the IDeA tasks will shut down for the minimax and the IA task will show up.

Its a display bug for sure.

I will try this.

sometimes works, but most of the time it does not  There are times when all the other IDeA tasks are finished, in the Stage Status window's Tasks section shows only grey "f"s, aka finished tasks, but down in the status bar, among the inactive engine icons one (or more ..depends how many infinite tasks You added) is still active. Minimaxing does not solving the issue...and when the Stop IDeA button is pushed, a message pops up saying that there are Infinite Analysis task running...I even tried to make a move up or down in the tree ..doesn't matter, and then Add a new Infinite task, but
that did not solve anything either (not even in cases when for the added Infinite Tasks a different engine was selected, -not one of the available IDeA engines- because this way there is no new IA engine added, but the previously added one is stopped, and restarted in the newly selected position)
