It is our pleasure to release Stockfish 11 to our fans and supporters.

Downloads are freely available at http://stockfishchess.org/download/

This version 11 of Stockfish is 50 Elo stronger than the last version, and
150 Elo stronger than the version which famously lost a match to AlphaZero
two years ago.

... we estimate that on a modern four
cores CPU, Stockfish 11 could give 1:1000 time odds to the human chess champion
having classical time control, and be on par with him. ...

Classical time control, say 40 moves/2 hours:
2 hours=7200 seconds; ave. 3 minutes, 180 seconds/move

1/1000th: 40 moves/7.2 seconds = ave. 0.18 seconds/move

Or:

Clocked simultaneous.: one modern 4-core, 1000 Sf 11's (~1.14 GB ram) at 40/7.2" each (40/2 hrs. total, 4c each sequentially) vs. the top 1000 FIDE rated players with 40/2 each simultaneously.
-Stockfish 11 would get a huge percent because the rating list goes down fairly quickly, #1 M. Carlsen 2872, #100 2649, https://ratings.fide.com/top.phtml?list=men .

Sf 11 1-cpu 3458

As expected, but 1st try, no book, just 2 games:
40 moves/3 mins., no Sy. 2Ghash
Ryzen 7 2700X 16 threads (SMT on, 8 cores)

With black Stockfish played the French, Komodo 3.Nd2.
Both first said 0.00 at move 26.

Stockfish played the cautious French Exchange Variation.
However after 13...cxd6 Komodo already had the worse pawn structure and was facing Stockfish's bishop pair.
Stockfish's pawn sacrifice, 68.g5, activated its light-squared bishop.

I forgot to set my Cute Chess GUI to 50 msec margin - that should solve the problem.

The key is -in the clutch -and when you have no time for juggling chess engine analysis against a position given-which chess engine do you trust to give you the best search results? You could go with CEGT's reported results given their hardware and set of games played-right? Go from there. But we do know that other chess rating systems have come up with some varying results-not remarkably different but enough to make one think about which chess engine is favored above another.

I always trust the winner even if the loser is Stockfish (or Lc0 I suppose).

I have maybe an extreme view that really there are no chess engines - that they all are quasi-chess engines.
For example the near total opposite-colored bishops and blockade blindness with all the CPU engines do not just happen sometimes at move 50, 90 etc.:
from the first after-book move their analysis trees are poisoned with decisive flaws (OCB with >= 1 pawn up, blockades that draw not win/lose etc.).
Engine vs. engines games are all the result of what happens to be left in their tree -chess related or not- vs. the other engine's tree -chess related or not.

There is plenty left to interest humans though,

> when you have no time for juggling chess engine analysis

Time is the problem. There is an old saying something like "Chess is an ocean from which an elephant or a mosquito can drink.", but do they have the time.
