I just installed Aquarium 2020 and started a new project and see it doing something that Pawnslinger has been asking for, which is not analyzing positions that will have their evaluations overwritten by minimax.

I started with a root at the initial positions and made moves out to the start of my project, then clicked the All positions button and was a bit surprised when only 1 task was added. It analyzed only the last position in the line then propagated that evaluation backwards to all the positions from there to the root.

The ? in the title of this thread is because I'm not completely sure this is new in 2020, but seem to remember it analyzing all of the positions in linear variations.

Good news!  Perhaps someone is listening.  Maybe I will upgrade... my version AQ2017 still analyzes all positions individually.  Big waste of time, in my view.

Which brings up a good point, what else is new that we don't know about??  Maybe they ARE listening, but they are hiding their light under a bushel basket.  How about ChessOk doing some marketing??  Maybe they would sell a few copies!!

I can't try this now because I am at work, but it seems like if you enter a game then click analyze all positions it could produce a strange result, like Black is checkmating by force at the initial position.

Not really a problem because you can run a tree strategy from wherever you want on the rest of the line, but I'm curious now if that's what it will do.

I tried this but the IDeA algorithm appears to work as before. For a 66-ply game, the number of jobs is still 66. The evaluation found for a ply is not discarded if it is better than the evaluation passed from ply to ply. It dislodges the evaluation being passed and becomes the evaluation being passed to the preceeding plies.
