Can't forget my favorite Christmas poem!

Christ Climbed Down by Lawrence Ferlinghetti

Christ climbed down
from His bare Tree
this year
and ran away to where
there were no rootless Christmas trees
hung with candycanes and breakable stars

Christ climbed down
from His bare Tree
this year
and ran away to where
there were no gilded Christmas trees
and no tinsel Christmas trees
and no tinfoil Christmas trees
and no pink plastic Christmas trees
and no gold Christmas trees
and no black Christmas trees
and no powderblue Christmas trees
hung with electric candles
and encircled by tin electric trains
and clever cornball relatives

Christ climbed down
from His bare Tree
this year
and ran away to where
no intrepid Bible salesmen
covered the territory
in two-tone cadillacs
and where no Sears Roebuck crèches
complete with plastic babe in manger
arrived by parcel post
the babe by special delivery
and where no televised Wise Men
praised the Lord Calvert Whiskey

Christ climbed down
from His bare Tree
this year
and ran away to where
no fat handshaking stranger
in a red flannel suit
and a fake white beard
went around passing himself off
as some sort of North Pole saint
crossing the desert to Bethlehem
Pennsylvania
in a Volkswagen sled
drawn by rollicking Adirondack reindeer
with German names
and bearing sacks of Humble Gifts
from Saks Fifth Avenue
for everybody’s imagined Christ child

Christ climbed down
from His bare Tree
this year
and ran away to where
no Bing Crosby carolers
groaned of a tight Christmas
and where no Radio City angels
iceskated wingless
thru a winter wonderland
into a jinglebell heaven
daily at 8:30
with Midnight Mass matinees

Christ climbed down
from His bare Tree
this year
and softly stole away into
some anonymous Mary’s womb again
where in the darkest night
of everybody’s anonymous soul
He awaits again
an unimaginable
and impossibly
Immaculate Reconception
the very craziest
of Second Comings

Merry Christmas! Well, maybe a bit early, still more than a week away.

My vote for a nice Christmas movie, in lack of Rybka news or other engine updates from myself, as my computer a bit broken at the moment, is for 'The Apartment'
an oldie from 1960 by Billy Wilder.

In this scene, the film is in Black and White and the apartment itself especially is shot in dark tones, but that is intentional, we see the two main actors, Jack Lemmon as "C.C. Baxter" and Shirley MacLaine as "Fran Kubelik" on Christmas Day after an exhausting night, after Fran had taken an overdose of sleeping pills but was found in the nick of time by "Mr. Baxter, 19th floor" Notice the nice Tiffany glass in lead lamp, it is New York after all, and the beautiful bentwood bed, I think it maybe is a real Thonet but not sure about that. The bed was actually donated to the bedroom scene by the director Billy Wilder himself, his and his wife Audrey's own bed. If it is maybe familiar to film buffs, it is possible because I've just read that the same bed was featured in Audrey Hepburn's bedroom in 'Sabrina'!

By coincidence, referring to the poem, there is also a Volkswagen in this movie, and a sled is mentioned although not a Volkswagen sled, and even Lord Calvert whiskey, in the bar where Jack Lemmon picks up Hope Holiday

Oh! My! It's "only a  "week"  before Christmas? All through the chess form not a thought of Christmas is stirring -only a thought of an iconic old movie- that's not even about Christmas? Has it  come to this ? :yell:

A Good Christmas wished for everyone! From The Netherlands in its second lockdown this year, please hang in there and hopefully we can navigate through this mess. Help, in the form of several vaccines is now underway. The new variants of the virus come at the most impossible time, five days before Christmas, one in the UK and another in South Africa. It looks like things are likely going to get even rougher because of this, in some countries, than they already were. Everybody please be careful!

"The great conjunction of Jupiter and Saturn on Monday was no surprise, of course. Even without the pandemic and a year of social unrest and political petulance, it still would have happened exactly on the winter solstice and four days before Christmas. It still would have been the first truly visible overlap of the two shiny planets since 1226."
