The following game was played in League 1 of TCEC season 16. It doesn't happen very often that you see so many unexpected moves, sacrifices, a knight octopus and three white pawns on the 6th rank as in this Stoofvlees-Ethereal game. 16.Bxh6!! starts the brilliancy, a positional piece sacrifice for just one pawn. Then we have 19.Ng3!! (threatening Qg4+ and Qh5+ and/or f6), the knight manoeuver to e6, 33.Kh2!, 35.a5! (note that 35... b5 instead of 35... Nxa5 also doesn't help because of 36.Rg8!! and 35... bxa5 36.Rb3!! also loses quickly), 37.Rg8!! (capturing the rook is followed by Qc7+ with mate), the calm march of the g-pawn to g6 still being a piece down, and finally 49.d6! completing the brilliant picture.

What a fantastic game!
