Hey everyone...
So I'm in the middle of tweaking my workflow a little bit... (it's funny what you don't know you don't know for the first year using this software). Now I have a couple of questions.

1. Deleted this question about annotations... I figured this one out.
2. If I export an opening tree to an .epd file, are the computer valuations for each position exported attached and intact inside that .epd file (I've never ever done this or even messed with .epd files)
3. Is there a way to change the TREE view in the IDEA workspace? It defaults to IDEA (makes sense right?) but I want it to show me a custom IDEA tree that I made for this opening project.

Appreciate any help.

Ok... I'm trying to think this through... In regards to #2, the results EPD already has the project positions and engine analysis for that project correct? So is there actually a reason to export positions to an EPD file? Am I messing this all up?

Hi CPW.

I use custom tree views all the time, but in the Sandbox.
Other's here use the Database window, but I prefer to leave that exclusively for database purposes.

Go to the tree tab and create a new tree or copy an existing one.
Edit it (don't have the program in front of me but I'm pretty sure it's a little wrench button).
Add a new column with engine evaluations and point it to the AQT tree where your idea analysis is stored.
Add another column, select "Number of Games" from the pulldown menu (all the way at the top I think), and point that to the same tree.
This will give you the "N".
If you use IA then add a third column and point it to the AQT tree where the IA analysis is stored.

I also have additional columns for AQT trees that I have made from the database.

You can run IDEA from within the Sandbox by clicking the analysis tab and choosing "Send to IDEA" then selecting the project of interest, and also start and stop IA with the little green beaker up top.

This gives you IDEA with a custom tree configuration.

Hey Ghengis,
Thanks for responding. Yeah. I'm aware of how to do it in the sandbox or database windows... Just wish it'd change in the IDEA workspace too. Definitely not a deal-breaker but it's mildly annoying.

I actually find it kind of convenient when I have 2 projects going simultaneously to have one running in the Sandbox and the other in IDEA.

A typical situation is doing bulk analysis of an entire opening line from the database in IDEA with 10,000+ positions from hundreds of games in the queue.
At the same time I will be working on another opening in the Sandbox that I have to go slow on and try to understand.
The engines get shared out between the 2 projects, but I don't have IDEA running all the time on the Sandbox project because I have to take time to absorb what is already there.

3. Yes, it defaults to the IDeA configuration, but you can change to any other saved configuration with the downward pointing arrow in the top right-hand corner of the tree panel.

Oh my word... Thank you, Dickie! I had to have someone come show it to me because of my eyesight but, sure enough, it's right there.

Thank you again.

Pleased to help. I should also add that you can change the default config tree in the project properties. At the bottom there is a drop down box for selecting the preferred tree config for the project - again a small downward pointing arrow. You can also, if you wish, modify the default IDeA config tree to add and/or remove columns in the same way as you would when creating a new config tree.
