Up Topic Rybka Support & Discussion / Aquarium / My BIGGEST wish for future versions of Aquarium
- - By ChiefPushesWood (**) Date 2019-05-20 18:43
So, as a couple of you know but most do not, I'm legally blind due to two strokes back in 2015. Dealing with my eyesight (lack thereof) is a daily issue/grind.

To that end, my biggest wish for future versions of Aquarium (or a patch even?) is for a DARK theme version. I have software called NegativeScreen that currently fills the need. The one issue with it is that it reverses the colors on the pieces so it's frustrating.

As much as I look at Aquarium every single day, having native support for a dark theme would be a huge help to me and my eyes ---- and a lot less painful.

Go to Data\PieceThemes\theme_name, copy the folder and then rename the pieces, so that wk becomes bk and bk ↔ wk, etc.
Then menu → Options → Display options → Themes → Piece themes → Add... and add the new folder with reversed pieces.

Nebulus,
I don't know that we've ever 'spoken' before on this board.

But I cannot tell you how grateful I am for your post. I had to tweak a bit more than just swapping (IE. Had to do the board themes too... wrong color squares and all...). There are still a few minor issues (like the 'to move square' in the corner of the board that is white instead of black) but nothing I can't live with.

While I'd still love a native solution, this works just fine. I sincerely thank you.

Glad I was able to help.

BTW, if you'd prefer your white pieces to look similar to your black, you can open each of those white SVG piece files in a text editor - for example Notepad++ - and replace stroke:#000000 with stroke:#eeeeee (light gray, which should be transformed to dark gray with the program that you use; you can also try white: ffffff).

I do not see those in the file... Here is what I see...

Oh, you are using Merida pieces, I thought they were Merida 2.
You can either use those or add stroke yourself, manually or with Inkscape.
style="fill:#1f1a17" here needs to be replaced with fill:#1f1a17;stroke:#eeeeee;stroke-width:1;stroke-opacity:1

I tried using the Merida2 but I couldn't get them to look right.. I tried again with the new information you gave and I love them.

Thank you so very much, Nebulus.
