Up Topic The Rybka Lounge / Computer Chess / Cerebellum books moves vs. engine moves
- By MrKris (**) Date 2019-05-07 07:57
To compare, in a general way, engine generated opening moves to moves from the Cerebellum books (from Leela & Stockfish https://zipproth.de/ ).
- See the results at the bottom.
Brainfish with the Cerebellums vs. the others with no book.

All moves by both sides 20 seconds/move to eliminate any base time loss for the no book engine.
Arena allows the book moves to be played instantly.

As expected BrainFish won even at fixed-time per move. ( https://www.sp-cc.de/ uses a standard game+increment. )
Stockfish (Brainfish with no book) did best among the no books, also as expected.
Komodo did surprisingly well, the other engines having more difficulty; of course after-book relative strength must have been a factor; and, only 24 games each engine is not definitive.

Perhaps surprising is how often the engines no-book went deeply into the Cerebellum books.

Here Houdini managed to stay in the Cerebellums through its 22nd move, and then it went on to draw.

Komodo goes out of the Cerebellums with 10.Na3 giving itself a strong 0.92 advantage.
Although Komodo did well overall, in this game it attacked on the queenside, 18.Qb7, leaving its king undefended - shown also in the diagram.
