Up Topic The Rybka Lounge / Computer Chess / A Mate-in-82 problem, Komodo 12.3 does well
- By MrKris (**) Date 2019-04-07 07:12
http://talkchess.com/forum3/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=70405
At the link above Komodo 12.3 (8 GB hash, i9 6-core) does quite well.
The solution is on the thread: http://talkchess.com/forum3/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=70405#p795012

On my machine, 8 GB memory total, Komodo 12.2.2 seems to be able to win with white against even Stockfish. (And at a variety time controls, I will post later.)
The solution is on the thread: http://talkchess.com/forum3/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=70405#p795012

Game/6 minutes + 1 sec./move 6-cpu AMD PhIIx6 Sy6 2GB hash
Dbl.RR: Mate-82 position colors reversed each engine pair

Komodo 12.2.2 was the only engine with all 3 white wins:

1: 4.0/6 Komodo   wh 3.0/3 , bk 1.0/3
2: 3.0/6 Stockfish  wh 2.5/3 , bk 0.5/3
3: 2.5/6 Ko.MCTS  wh 1.5/3 , bk 1.0/3
3: 2.5/6 Ethereal   wh 2.0/3 , bk 0.5/3

Here are just 4 games at a longer time control.

Game/50 minutes + 10 secs./move 6-cpu AMD PhIIx6 Sy6 2GB hash

In both its games as white Houdini very quickly played into a 3-move repetition.
As black Komodo erroneously gave itself 0.00 in its first move, then a losing evaluation or mate after.
In the inserted game Stockfish never said anything other than 0.00 for itself although it should have lost.

Komodo as white said 1.Bf1 2.03 instead of M81, but then Stockfish gave up the c-file sooner than needed with 1...Kb2?! and Komodo said 2.Kd2 M76, the game was mate on move 66. Stockfish gave itself 0.00 for its first 7 moves then realized it was lost/mated.

Houdini lost more quickly as black vs. Stockfish, but it found mates much sooner: move 10 instead of Stockfish's move 26 (with a 'stray' 0.00 on 24), neither close to Komodo's move 2 above.

Attachment: 82moveMate--G5010.pgn - Games (6k)

A double RR with the 82-move mate with the top (CPU) engines.

Game/20 mins. + 4 secs./move 6-cpu, AMDPhIIx6 Sy6 2GB hash

Stockfish 1-0 Komodo (97 moves)
Komodo 1-0 Stockfish (64)
Komodo 1-0 Houdini (56)
Stockfish 1-0 Houdini (37)
Houdini 1/2-1/2 Komodo (5)
Houdini 1/2-1/2 Stockfish (15)

Houdini very quickly drew its games as white as in the last post, the others always won with white.
As black in both it was the quickest loser.

Komodo, black vs. Stockfish, was able to defend longer than the theoretical 82 moves.

Again Komodo shows only an advantage with its 1st move but it starts calling mate on its 2nd.

Stockfish again starts by giving itself 0.00's, but it soon realizes Houdini went to the a-file too quickly.

Summary of this and my prior posts about this M82 problem:
- Komodo 12.2.2 best, white 100%;
- Stockfish devs. close 2nd, only 1 white draw and the rest wins;
- Houdini 6.03 far worse, with white always playing a 3-fold very quickly.
