Recently I started playing chess again and will be playing more tournaments in the near future. I was hoping to get a little inside to those who use database tools and other resources to help them for there chess. This is for human games so I hope I don't kill this post to much. lol, I've started a rep with e4 e5 as black and dutch setups as black vs about and queen pawn openings. For white I've been mostly playing colle opening setups (1.d4 2.Nf3 3.e3 4.Bd4 5.b3) I've wanted to make a database with ideas I can get form books or dvd, then have a base of my own games. I'm not trying to look to deep, mostly I'm looking at plans. For example with e4 e5 as black I've been looking at a lot of ideas playing for g6 in the ruy or Bc4 ideas. Any advise you may have I would be appreciate! I'm soon about to possibly be getting a coach for extra assistant.

For those who play or use to play. Does anyone have any good suggests for books or materials for middle game or endgame play?

Ed puts out a free database, and someone converted it to scid format which loads faster in scid which is a free database application.

I think any chessbase engine product comes with some version of chessbase which of course works great for viewing/editing games.

If you're really super ambitious and have plenty of cash there's always chessbase megabase.

As for books, for endgames "Dvoretsky's endgame manual" is supposed to be the gold standard.
For middlegame I like things like Silman's Reassess your Chess and Rowson's "Chess for Zebras". You can also check Silman's website where he and some others review various books.

If you want to do some serious pattern loading:
For mating patterns, some tactics and some games check out Chess: 5334 Problems, Combinations and Games by Laszlo Polgar.
For tactics try Encyclopedia of Chess Combinations by Kalinichenko.
There are boatloads of websites that have tactics trainers, chess.com, 365chess, chess24, lichess (difficult though!), chess tactics server, probably a zillion more.
