I have several trees which are corrupted (see image).

I tried Recover selected trees and it worked with some but not with all. I also tried Restore but "nothing happened", the trees are still red.

What can I do?
Does this mean the .epd file is useless as well or can I import the results from .\Data\IDeA\Results\09-PetK.epd into a new tree?

What I do is use the Windows search within the Aquarium data folder for files by the name of the tree I am looking for... there should be lots of them found.  Some will be located in "backup" folers.  There should be several backups, you may have to drop back more than 1 backup to find a working backup.  On occasion I have lost a few days work, but no more.  You have to manually copy the pertinent files into you working directory.

Use the automatic backup function in IDeA.
The system makes a backup before every minimax.
Very rare that you have to lose more than a days work.
I always verify active trees in between sessions and backup the data directory at least daily. The last year I have never lost anything (exception my car keys..)

To use tree backup / restore in IDeA:

Close AQ
Go to the directory where the corrupt files are located.
Create a sub-directory (name it xxx-OLD) and move the corrupted files to this directory (just a precaution..)
There are only 2 items to move: file xxx.aqt and directory xxx.lbd_data

Go to the IDeA backup directory and start with Last Versions 2
Copy the 2 items into the now empty directory: again only 2 items:  file xxx.aqt and directory xxx.lbd_data

Open AQ and check if the tree is there. If not try Last Versions 1. And so on.
You may delete directory xxx-OLD

That is all.

Sometimes I also find “$1” files remaining after I exit Aquarium in a normal way. I guess it is temporary files used during runtime. Is it safe to delete these files or should I handle them in any other way? The “$1” files do not exist in any Backup directory.

E.g
D00 Blackmar gambit 1.d4 d5 2.e4.ldb_data
D00 Blackmar gambit 1.d4 d5 2.e4$1.ldb_data
D00 Blackmar gambit 1.d4 d5 2.e4.aqt
D00 Blackmar gambit 1.d4 d5 2.e4$1.aqt

The file "$ 1"arise in the project. Apparently it's temporary files. I do minimaks project and they disappear.

Thanks. I just tried with minimax and it works.

Will try that, thank you.
What is actually stored in the tree? The evaluation of positions is in the epd-file, so is it just the moves? It should be possible to generate the tree based on the epd-file, no?

I do not know how to use the epd files.  But I routinely delete them, so they are of no use to me.

Since I delete the epd files, and my trees are fine, I would say that the trees contain all information... moves, evals, everything.

Positions, counts, evaluations. EPD is kind of a backup.

> It should be possible to generate the tree based on the epd-file, no?

Stage Status pane: Manage → Add results... and point to your EPD file.
