In the coming year, I will probably upgrade my whole computer system.  Most likely leaving Intel and going with AMD.  It looks like the new Ryzen line-up will be fairly stable by the time I am ready to upgrade.  Also, I would love to leave Windows and switch to Linux.  I know that Linux is supposed to be able to run Aquarium under Wine, but it would be nice if there was a native version for the Linux system.

I know that is a long-shot request, since it looks like the developers are using Microsoft's development environment (don't know which language, but from the error trapping that I see, I am pretty sure it is Visual Studio).  I am not sure, but I think moving from that to a Linux based development environment would be challenging.  But better to wish and hope, than have no hope at all.

There have been programmers trying that, for instance Stefan Meyer-Kahlen. He knew every single Linux customer by name.

From a business point of view, the chess market is way too small for Linux version. Still, ensuring Wine compatibility is interesting, since it also means MacOSX support.

Be aware that the latest Aquarium does not run fine on Linux (problems with trees) and you need Aquarium 2015.

btw, for other tasks like programming or from technical point of view, Linux distributions are more flexible and advanced. In science most programs run on Linux and some have a better Linux support than support for Windows. So leaving Windows is a good idea if you do not need some special Windows software.

Aquarium is the only program that I use that works only on Windows.  Most of the software I use is only Windows specific if it is a system utility of some sort... and then those are often hardware specific as well.  I have Aquarium 2015, and it still works on my hardware... does it work well with Wine?  I guess it is worth consideration, but I am becoming used to Aq 2017.

Oh well, I thought is was a rather long-shot chance.  But worth putting my opinion forward.

it works really well, I'm using it all the time, although I can't tell about IDeA stability and such things, I'm not using IDeA that much.

It's written in Delphi as far as I know. And with Linux (GNU/Linux, Android excluded) market share of what... 2-3% they will not put any serious development time on this, and definitely not until Embarcadero does some magic and gets their products to support Linux.
