I want to propose a challenge for an average chess player (1500-1600) one who has been so for over 5+ years to study all of Morphy's games for 6 months(3 games a day), move by move until you've done all 465 and then play in a tournament(online or otherwise) and report your results.

You'd get demolished because most of your theory would be king's gambit/evan's gambit :-D

I do not think that theory is very important at the relevant level.

I can probably start 1.e4 h5 and still win with black against level of 1500-1600

Yeah any theory you might attain would be better than 0 theory a 1500-1600 player has LOL

I doubt if the memory of 1500-1600 players is good enough to memorize 3 games per day(I mean without forgetting the previous games)
My fide rating is 2000 and I do not think that I can do it(but I admit that I did not try).

Why not attempt :) and you might jump to 2200 in tactics :)

Awesome article! I didn't know this was in the wild, only ever read excerpts from it.

It is amazing how lucid he was talking about chess when he was so addled talking about anything else.

I have to admit that I still love the book "Bobby Fischer Teaches Chess" which was not my first chess book, but the first one that got through to me.

Yeah that's a great book for beginners. Brilliant idea.
