I'd like to thank you for your patience. It took me a long while to find this move, and, had I moved faster on the forced variations, I might be moving 40...Kg4!? now, or might have moved 39...Qb2!? voiding me of this variation. Hopefully I can speed up a bit now.

I have to say I dont have much clue at what is happening here and during the last moves, you always payed unpredicted moves to me but interesting.
That said, I still believe this is won for white ?!.

I've gotta say that all the black alternatives that I checked that didn't transpose to the position after 40...Kg4!? seemed completely lost, yet the variations after 40...Kg4!? kept falling until the move fell down as well. I had to make sure 40...Ke6 didn't suffer the same fate and it's holding for now, but there's a lot of tricks white still can play and there's plenty more I haven't seen yet, which explains my slowness.

My move below. Still thinking I can hold this.

Haha, from all the people all over the internet that I've told I went on vacation you're the first to ask!

I went to the beach of Las Chachalacas and got under the water of the sea for the first time in my life, and felt the sand burning under my feet. I also got in the "banana" which is an inflated thing one grabs up carried by a boat:

I also met with my cousin there which allowed us to stay in his house for the night, so I met his wife, mother in law and his son which is my nephew and his daughter which is my niece and is adorable. She read me some children books because apparently I suck at reading them :yell: and I learned a few things, like Hercules, the Disney character, being born female and turning male when growing up...

I also went to the hot springs of Carrizales, which are waters that apparently come directly from the volcano and are very hot, but if one takes them bit by bit the body acclimates to them and they feel just warm. What I found interesting is the little waterfalls they have there, because, if you sit just below them the water hits your back at high speed, so you get massaged by the water and it's definitively worth a try.

I came back very tired and need some vacations from my vacations  and then the contrast in weather got the best of me and I got a sore throat which I'm recovering from, but other than that I'd say they were good vacations, thank you!

well, the branches/options are for now too big to provide such conditional so its better to play a little further to reduce them.

Fully agree on that!

And, anyway, let's talk numbers. How much do you measure your winning chances? I estimate my changes to save the game are about 1/5, or 20%, and would like to know how your likelihood of winning the game looks like. 90%? 95%?

difficult to give a meaningful number for now, but lets say somewhere between 85 & 90% chances winning.
I just also wanted to say that even if this games ends in a draw, the original goal is achieved as my statement was that playing the Petrov if not winning for white is horrible to play as black, which seems to turn out right !

rgds

PS I thought you where thinking this game would end in a draw ?!? Do you believe now is more likely to be lost reading the 20% ?

Sorry but my 49. move was not Qb7 but Qe7

>the original goal is achieved as my statement was that playing the Petrov if not winning for white is horrible to play as black, which seems to turn out right !

Oh yes, you wee absolutely right on your statement. You had bested me in the Petrov and played some awesome lines that I couldn't anticipate. This remains true regardless of my success on being able to save the game or not.

>PS I thought you where thinking this game would end in a draw ?!?

I said I thought I could save the game, mainly because I have seen my chances to save it improve (at some point I think I only had 1/10 chance to save the game, which would agree with your analysis, but have managed to pounce it to 1/5 which is twice as likely to save it under my analysis.)

>Sorry but my 49. move was not Qb7 but Qe7

Oh, ah! I misread your move. I was not expecting Qe7, I will be analyzing the right position and come with a move in short order (unless this is your killer move I was missing and the game is over, in that case I'll resign.) Sorry for the inconvenience.

Okay, let's do this. I actually find curious that so far this is looking better than the other variations I was considering, so I'll tentatively adjust my drawing chances to 1 out of four, or something.

how are u going to draw that ?
Parent - - By Uly (Gold) [mx] Date 2015-05-28 21:15
I can't.

It took me this long to finally refute all my lines and conclude that it's impossible to draw the game, though I couldn't have done it earlier, and I just want to thank you for the really strong game that you gave me.

Black resigns

1-0

Thank you for the game.

In a nutshell, while black can maybe draw with the Petroff, it's IMHO not the best option by far.
Till now, I always found that Black has to suffer a lot at minimum while in openings like Spanish and Sicilian, black has full compensation.
