The idea was to explore, which openings engines prefer if there is no supporting opening data whatsoever.

12s+1s, i5-3210M/2.5...2.9 GHz
256 MB hash(*), 1 thread each
ponder off, various EGTBs
Arena 3.5 / Windows 8 / 64-bit
no opening books or variation sets

*) Shredder 12 SE: 64 MB


These conditions provided search depths of roughly 13 plies in average, of course being different depending on engine and position.
