Before using this feature you should know how attachments are added to posts: How do I attach images and other files to posts?.

By default attachments are placed below the text of the post. If you want to display an image somewhere else, just place the cursor where you want it to be displayed and click on the 'img' button above the textarea. Then type in the name of your image, like this:

[img]someImage.jpg[/img]

After deciding where the image should be displayed, post the message and attach the image as usual.



The image above was attached using this method.

If you prefer to have the image displayed as a thumbnail, use the same method, but add 'thb' to the 'img' tag:

[img thb]someImage.jpg[/img].

Note that for portability and security reasons filenames are sanitized by the forum. The filename used by the forum may therefore be different from the original filename if it contained some "unusual" characters (i.e. anything except [a-zA-Z0-9_\-\.]). In case a file with the name you specified is not found it will be indicated as follows:

[nopic.jpg]

There's also a slightly different method I've used a couple of times:

[img]url from some image on the web[/img]

In this case you won't have to attach anything!
