I am planning to organize a new book competition, for more details:
http://www.sedatcanbaz.com/chess/?page_id=601
No patience to see many book makers in the battle field !!
Greetings,
Sedat
Not at all...its my pleasure :)
But however... I see only 2 postings over this thread, honestly I expected much more interest...
Maybe in the next days,
we will see more comments regarding the next SCCT Book Championship I
Best,
Sedat

>Sedat do not worry, it is better to have few good fans that so many no-good
Thanks for your replay...
Actually all of the previous SCCT Book Authors were quite good people
And there is no doubt that we will see many new book makers, which I hope we'll have a good friendship too
It's true that sometimes (not very often) we had some critics each other, but overall I can say one thing:
I miss all of them !!!
Best Wishes,
Sedat
I suspect that the reduced response is NOT due to reduced interest in your competitions. It's much more likely to be due to reduced traffic to the Rybka Forum, especially this sub-forum. It would probably help to post in the computer chess sub-forum as well...

Agreed with you dear Alan, I will follow your recommendation
Best,
Sedat
>Nice, thanks for the info.
You are welcome...
>Can you please tell me what is this optimize 0/100 ? maximum book move 100 and minimum 0? or it represents variety of play?
That means,
I will use same book setting configuration for all opening books, and here is it:

BTW,
Otherwise, I can make mistakes... because I can't remember for example all settings of 50 book participants...
I am human, my memory is not a computer :)
Best,
Sedat
For Stockfish/Komodo:Fritz (ctg), plus Polyglot (bin) formats will be allowed
For Houdini: only opening books in Fritz (ctg) book format will be allowed
Due to Houdini does not have book option to use Polyglot (bin) format
For all Fritz (ctg) particpants same setting will be used : Optimized 0/100
> I am planning to organize a new book competition
Sorry, but I do not understand: I to participate in this tournament, I have to give my book. This book on what computer to play?
I'll play with my computer online, or I will send you my book and play it on your computer? (I have a old PC).
Because "Permanent Brain: Disabled"?
"Maximum Opening Book Size Limit: 250 MB in WinRAR size": Is this size a rigid parameter?
I think to properly evaluate a book, the engine should be unique. Or several rounds of the tournament with only one engine for the group.
However, in every game, the direct opponents should use the same engine on the same hardware.
>Sorry, but I do not understand: I to participate in this tournament, I have to give my book. This book on what computer to play?
All opening books (participants) will play on my machines: i7 980X / i7 970
So in case of interest to participate, you need to send your book to:
http://www.sedatcanbaz.com/chess/?page_id=38
>I'll play with my computer online, or I will send you my book and play it on your computer? (I have a old PC).
No...all registered opening books will play on my tournament computers :)
>Because "Permanent Brain: Disabled"?
Yes...that means Ponder OFF
>"Maximum Opening Book Size Limit: 250 MB in WinRAR size": Is this size a rigid parameter?
Yes...I can make an exception, if 3 mb - 5 mb in case of larger...otherwise I have no much free time to download e.g 1GB, 2GB or 10GB... :)
>I think to properly evaluate a book, the engine should be unique. Or several rounds of the tournament with only one engine for the group.
The number of the cycles will depend on the number of participants, for right now 2 cycles is planning
>However, in every game, the direct opponents should use the same engine on the same hardware.
The speed difference between i7 980X and i7 970 is too small (i7 980X is approx. 3 % faster)
kN/s Cores EXE Processors Speed Hardware Users
8394 6 x64 Intel Core i7-980X 3.33GHz Sedat Canbaz
8150 6 x64 Intel Core i7-970 3.20GHz Sedat Canbaz
Note also that I did not notice so far different results during testing the engines in SCCT (based on thousands of games)
No...any engine performance is highly depending on opening book usage (Perfect 16 book proved that) :

Best,
Sedat
You can embed them with the Aquarium Book Adapter,
or i can preconfigure it for you,
so you only need to point to the AquariumBookAdapter.exe and my preferred Engine is ready to go.
Can you allow those books as well?
cul8'er.
In other words,
I have no any idea what will be the influence in case of using Aquarium Book formats...
>Is a tournament open to all,...
Thanks for your interest
Yes...the next book tournament will be open for all
Best,
Sedat
Gull 2.8b and Rybka 4.1 will be allowed as participants too! In case of any wish...
For Stockfish/Komodo:Fritz (ctg), plus Polyglot (bin) formats will be allowed
For Gull/Houdini/Rybka : only opening books in Fritz (ctg) book format will be allowed
Due to the mentioned engines (Gull/Houdini/Rybka) do not have book option to use Polyglot (bin) format
For all Fritz (ctg) participants same setting will be used : Optimized 0/100
Best,
Sedat

Best,

>I will submit a book, my goal - not to come in last!!
:)
Which are planning to be as participants very soon:

More Details:
- If anyone's registered opening book is missing in the table, please inform me...
- Probably there will be more participants in the next hours (due to several delay reasons...)
* That's why the tournament start day probably will be on 16.05.2014
- Unfortunately this time I can't provide the tournament in LIVE, due to I have no external PC...
- I plan to use same stockfish_14051110_x64_modern_sse42 for all books, who requested Stockfish...
- As I mentioned before, for all ctg books will be used same settings: optimized 0/100
- Mostly of the book registrations are going mainly for Stockfish (only a few for Houdini)
* Unfortunately so far no any book resgistration for Gull, Komodo and Rybka
- I've got an email from Mr. Jatt, where he promised to give a prize for the next SCCT Book Champion !!
One thing more,
As before in SCCT, I noticed so far for the current tour, there are a lot registrations by super strong book authors
I am not going to count which are those famous authors, becouse I am afraid to miss to mention some of them... )) !!
But durring or in the end of the competition I will publshed the full list with all author names!
Yes... the real Arena is coming very very soon !!!!!!
Have fun,
Sedat
I sent you my book RpC-Needle-140511-7.bin (13.05.2014)
Best regards,
Aleksandr
Very nice! Right now I am not at home. .. but later I will download your book! Thanks....
Best,
Sedat
I have always admired your books of Diffusion series!
Nice to know that your book is present in this tour
I not do a long time books.
Not yet possible make the new Diffusion.
Let's see what be able Needle.
Here testing Needle http://www.chess2u.com/t8513-3-books-tournament
+1
I have tested it. I was using Fritz 12, setting two versions of stockfish and
had one play without a book and another with my book FirstBook.ctg. Then
I had them play 10 games with 1m+1s time control. Guess what... the vers.
without a book won 5.5-4,5.

Is Fritz12 a decent GUI to make those tests? With Aquarium I have a bit of
a problem with ctg books... Also, how many games do I need to play to get
statistical certainty that my book is not good

a confidence interval etc.?
There is no doubt that the current competition will be very exiting!!
Thanks a lot again for your interest and trusting to Me (SCCT) since many years!
And I wish GOOD LUCK to all Book Authors !!

>thanks for the book.. i'll play at playchess
Yes, but Perfect 2014 books are not recommended for Playchess sever
>Interesting. Presumably Perfect 2014 is a good book, so I am fascinated to know what makes it unsuitable for Playchess and what you think it is more suited to.
Simply because Perfect 2014 book is very small in size, plus its almost all lines are up to 8 moves and it includes a lot of openings....
All these factors are disadvantage to test Perfect 2014 book on Playchess server
For more details about Perfect 2014 book:
http://www.sedatcanbaz.com/chess/?page_id=1024
For example, (I mean for Playchess, SCCT Book Tournaments or for any other book competitions etc...)
To be on Top places is needed large decent book with deeper move lines, less openings, thousands of games book vs book testings using equal strength engine
And the most important factor: any opening book with superior strong lines that never played before has more chances to be ranked at one of the first places!
