Hello,
After downloading and installing the Tarrasch GUI which includes the free version of Rybka, I started to investigate it.
I knew that a free version has its limitations but, before I purchase the Rybka 4, I wanted to get an
impression of its possibilities.
I was a little bit disappointed.
What I want is:
1. Possibility to adjust the ELO rating of this chess engine when playing against it. This for checking my      own strength and improving it.
2. A good analysis of a certain position with an easy to read tree display.
Playing with the Tarrasch I could not detect those two points.
I am using Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit.
Can someone advice me in this matter please? Thanks in advance.

Look into options (UCI/engine options), there you should be able to adjust its ELO between 1200 and 2400.

An UCI-engine just can play a game (with time-control) or analyze a position infinitely... directing the engine through different "interesting" positions and creating such visualized trees is the task of a GUI like Aquarium or Fritz (deep analysis). For Rybka 4, there is at least an (unsupported/inofficial) side-tool called Visualizer to get more information about the calculation-process.

Thanks Antares for your response.
In the meantime I did some experiments using Arena as GUI with the free Rybka engine installed.
Whatever I try, Rybka refuses to make a move after I entered my first one.
This happens also when I am playing the black pieces.
I am certainly doing something wrong?

Did you set it up as a UCI engine?
Arena also has a quirk, where it will set the engine type to 'Automatic' if you simply select UCI when you first install it using the type dialog that pops up.
So, go to Menu items "Engines",
Choose dropdown "Manage",
Click on the "Details" tab,
Change the "Type" dropdown to UCI.

I guess that those changes will fix it.
If not, come back and we will assist you again.

Thanks user923005, that was the problem!
After changing it to UCI things are running.

Another problem popped up: No 'help' function is available in Arena.
Clicking on 'help' gives the help contents but nothing is in it.
Any suggestions how to solve this?
Thanks in advance.
