Hello All,

I recently purchased the 32 bit multi-processor version of Rybka 2.3.  I have a new Hewlett-Packard Turion 64X2 (Windows Vista 32 bit) with a dual-core processor.  I already had Rybka 2.2 (single processor version) on it.  Yet, I've played the new 2.3 mp version against my brother's Fritz 9 (and he has a much older computer and no dual core processor) and, for some reason, my Rybka 2.3 mp 32 bit version is doing horribly.

My question is: Since I know there is nothing wrong with my computer, is there something my Rybka's parameters that might make it play a lot weaker?  It just doesn't make sense that this version is playing so weakly and analyzing so poorly.  I noticed within the parameters (click "change main engine" and you'll see an "engine parameters" button....click this) there is a box (whatever you call it) that reads "UCI Elo" and in the white box next to it...it has "1200".  This was the default setting when I installed it.

Does this mean I have Rybka set to play at an ELO of 1200 only?????  What does this "UCI Elo" mean?  Are there other features within this "parameters" section that I could "tweak" to make my Rybka 2.3 mp 32 bit analyze better?  What about the "preserve analysis" function?  Will this help with analysis? what are the pros and cons of using this?

There must be something in the settings because the 2.3 mp version 32 bit just isn't doing well.  Yet, I know the program is far, far better for analysis than Fritz 9....and a much better program, strength wise.

Can someone please, please let me know if there is anything I can do to make my new version of Rybka analyze with greater strength?  What happens if you click the box "Win percentage to Hash Usage?"

Basically, is there anything I can do that will make this new version of Rybka (especially since it's running on a new dual core processor) the strongest possible for evaluating a position?

Your comments will be most appreciated.   It would really mean a lot to me to get this new version able to analyze at it's absolute best considering the computer I have.  And, on my new computer this version of Rybka should be quite strong and wonderful for analysis.

Am I missing something?

Sincerely,

T. Harris

Oh, I'm using Deep Fritz 8 as my GUI.  And I'm most interested in learning how to get the most optimal analyis parameters set IF the default parameters aren't the best.

Thanks,

T.H.
