I just played "hourglass" at my chessclub (you get your opponents thinking time added to your time and the other way around, both players get 1 minute each), maybe it's possible to implement this on chessplanet. I wonder why no chess server I know supports this...

Well, that's a great Time Control idea, is it novel or is just an overlooked old idea?

I'm not sure, but I can imagine that in the time when mechanical clocks weren't available, some guysm played with an hourglass. Btw., I played it with DGT clocks, it's mode 29 :)

There is a possibility of implementing such time controls. At the moment no changes to ChessPlanet are made though.

And there is some difficulty with organising tournament with such time controls: you never know when the last game of the round is going to end.

Yes, for tournaments this isn't ideal, anyway, the same problem exists for tournaments with an increment. In practice those hourglass games are about as fast as 3-5 minutes blitz. In Mainz we had a rapid tournament with over 600 players (time control 20+5 I think) and still the rounds were finished in time.
So that's no problem.
