Isn't the Benkö mainline refuted?
Parent - - By Homayoun_Sohrabi_M.D. (***) [us] Date 2013-03-04 17:55
I don't even know what the Benko main line is:red:  We are just playing a game here without the aid of any engines, databases, etc.   I am  just gonna develop my pieces and hopefully survive the opening.

Let me know by the way if you are interested in some games, without any engines help though.

Ah I see. I'm always up for some unassisted play.

So no databases, engines, opening books, homecooked analysis?
Parent - By Homayoun_Sohrabi_M.D. (***) [us] Date 2013-03-04 22:15
That's right!   Home cooked analysis is ok if your brain did the cooking:wink:

> Isn't the Benkö mainline refuted?

I don't know. I was hoping he'd take my pawn on b5. As it is now, I'm totally out of book.

If you have a refutation, please share it with me as long as it's not applicable to this game, as I was intending learning the Benkö instead of the QGA that I have played in my last tournament.

In my home preparation I have this line as better for white.

1.d4 Nf6 2.c4 c5 3.d5 b5 4.cxb5 a6 5.bxa6 Bxa6 6.Nc3 g6 7.e4 Bxf1 8.Kxf1 d6 9.Nf3 Bg7 10.g3 O-O 11.Kg2 Nbd7 12.a4!

r2q1rk1/3nppbp/3p1np1/2pP4/P3P3/2N2NP1/1P3PKP/R1BQ3R b - - 0 12

The point of a4 is to make use of the extra pawn as quickly as possible. The knight is heading for b5 where it blocks the b-file. If white can play b3 without taking too much damage he will simply be a clear pawn up.

Here is a game I played on chess.com against a 1800 player. He quickly imploded.

Fair enough, this looks hard for black. Thanks for the tip.

I'm going to ask Graham Banks to include this line in his thematic tournament for the craic.

I don't know what happened but I never got alerted by the forum software that you had moved. Strange, I just went to the game out of curiosity and saw it that way.
