Hi Graham,i am very reluctant to criticize you on any aspect of engine testing, however this tournament was advertised by yourself as an 8 cpu tournament.
However you reduced it it to normal CCRL 40/40 in other words you got results a bit faster than a normal 40/40 2.4  game tournament..
This to me seems utterly pointless, what people want to know is by purchasing better hardware and spending same time on a game how different engines will improve.
In the past this was most noticeable with Zappa,if you just reduce time it takes to play a game we will learn nothing.

Best Paul.

Not sure exactly what you're getting at.
Each engine used 8 cores at a time control of 40 moves in 29 minutes repeating, which on this computer equates to the CCRL 40/40 time control, even though it didn't count for CCRL rating purposes.
On this computer, I use this time control for official CCRL 40/40 testing of 4 cores and 1 core.
I chose 40/29 rather than 40/40 for two reasons - a comparison at the CCRL time control, plus it's not too fast and not too slow for those interested to watch.

Maybe I'll run an 8 core tourney at a slower time control next time though, as it seems that a few would like to see that.

Cheers,
Graham.

I enjoyed this tourney and I think I will enjoy your new suggestion better. But I propose you include only fewer participants.

cheers!
